The present disclosure relates to a process for separating D-Allulose from an aqueous feed mixture comprising D-Allulose and at least one other ketose, particularly, fructose. The process comprises: adding calcium chloride to the solution comprising D-Allulose and fructose to get a mixture; drying the mixture obtained in the above step; adding aqueous ethanol to the dried mixture to precipitate the fructose as a hydrated addition compound of said calcium chloride; filtering the precipitate formed and recovering the fructose from the precipitate; collecting the filtrate comprising calcium addition D-Allulose and recovering the D-Allulose from the filtrate.

Disclosed is an aqueous bonding composition comprising: (A) a sugar syrup; (B) an inorganic acid ammonium salt; and (C) a metal salt. The sugar syrup (A) preferably comprises at least one selected from waste molasses, ice molasses, and crude saccharide. The metal salt (C) preferably comprises at least one selected from potassium salts, calcium salts, sodium salts, and magnesium salts. The aqueous bonding composition is excellent in balance among performances such as bending strength, bending strength under wet condition, water-absorption thickness expansion coefficient, and peeling strength while being capable of bonding at a comparatively low temperature, and is particularly useful to produce a wood-based material. Further, disclosed is a wood-based material obtainable by using the composition.

The invention relates to an integrated process for the production of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF), K 2 SO 4 , levulinic acid and formic acid from κ-carrageenan, the latter being obtained from fresh Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed biomass after expelling the juice. Mg(HSO 4 ) 2 was used in HMF synthesis, with co-production of galactose. The aqueous stream after HMF extraction was treated with the seaweed juice which process facilitated recovery of K 2 SO 4 in pure form. The galactose may be utilised for synthesis of levulinic acid and formic acid before or after K 2 SO 4 recovery or, alternatively, utilised for other purposes. Catalysts required in the synthetic reactions are generated in the process itself while the process energy required is met out of additional supplies of the seaweed biomass which is subjected to combustion/gasification.
