Abstract:
A gas bearing assembly includes a snap joint for attaching an externally pressurized porous gas bearing to a bearing cartridge. The gas bearing assembly has an adjustment screw which supplies a gas to an end of the adjustment screw via a through bore. The externally pressurized porous gas bearing has a housing portion with a washer and a snap ring. The gas bearing assembly additionally includes an air transfer tube positioned in the end of the adjustment screw and the housing portion. The washer and the snap ring retain the housing portion on the end of the adjustment screw to removably retain the bearing on the bearing cartridge.
Abstract:
The lubricant-return holes (12d) are provided in the intermediate portion (12c) of the ring gear (12), Thus, the lubricant stagnating above the first oil sealing member (32) can be easily discharged to the oil pan (36) side via the lubricant-return holes (12d) even when the ring gear (12) has stopped rotating in response to the starter motor being turned off after completion of the start of the internal combustion engine. As such, the level of the surface of lubricant stagnating between the ring gear (12) and the outer race member (14) does not rise, and therefore the lubricant surface virtually does not reach the outer race (30) and the one-way clutch (20) that are rotating while the internal combustion engine is running. Thus, bubbling of lubricant and production of sludge, which may otherwise be caused by agitation of the lubricant surface, can be prevented.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of machining a raceway of a bearing ring and/or a roller of a roller bearing to provide the raceway or roller with a texture pattern. This texture pattern has beneficial effects on the lubrication of a bearing comprising the machined raceways or rollers. Machining is preferably performed by an electrochemical process. The invention also relates to an electrode suitable for the method according to the invention and method for manufacturing electrodes suitable for the machining of a raceway or roller.
Abstract:
Lubrication system in a wheel support device with a wheel hub (2) provided with a hub gear and mounted rotatably on an axle journal (4) by means of inner and outer wheel bearings (14 and 16). An oil storage space (30) is provided on the inside of the hub cap (8) of the wheel hub, from which space oil is collected as the hub rotates by means of an oil collector (32) which is fixed in relation to the axle journal (4) and which guides the oil to an annular space (46) on the axle journal, from which the oil is fed to arc-shaped chambers (50) between the bearings (14, 16). From these chambers oil flows through both the outer (16) and the inner wheel bearing (14), and in the hub special oil return passages (54, 58, 56, 60) are provided through which oil from the inner bearing (14) is returned to the oil storage space (30) without any possibility of it mixing with oil in the arc-shaped chambers (50) on its way to that space.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A wheel hub and bearing assembly (2) for use on the ends of a stationary axle and particularly on tractor and trailer axles. A wheel hub (4), a pair of bearings (6, 8), a bearing spacer (16) and seals (10, 12) are assembled and installed on the axle end. The bearing spacer is positioned between the pair of bearings and has one or more vanes (50) mounted thereon for redirecting the flow of lubricant disposed in a cavity (28) in the wheel hub between the bearings in a bi-axial flow direction towards each spaced bearing to lubricate and cool the bearings.
