Azo heterocyclic compounds that are substantially non-fluorescent or only weakly fluorescent useful as energy acceptors. The chemically reactive compounds possess utility for labeling a wide variety of substances, including biomolecules with the resulted conjugates being highly useful for a variety of energy-transfer assays and applications. The biological conjugates of the disclosure exhibit little or no observable fluorescence and their fluorescence is significantly increased upon a biological stimulation.

The invention relates to an optical data carrier that contains a preferably transparent substrate that is optionally already coated with one or more reflective layers, onto whose surface an information layer which can be written on with light, optionally one or more reflective layers and optionally a protective layer or a further substrate or a cover layer are applied. Said optical data carrier can be written on and read with blue, red or infrared light, preferably laser light, and the information layer comprises a light-absorbing compound and optionally a binder. The inventive data carrier is further characterized in that at least one heterocyclic azo dye is used as the light-absorbing compound.

The present invention concerns a new dissymmetrical cationic polyazo compounds of formula (I) Dyel-L-Dye2. The present invention also relates to dye compositions comprising such compounds as direct dye in a medium that is suitable for dyeing keratin fibres, and also to a process for dyeing keratin fibres using this composition and a multi-compartment device. The present invention provides direct dyes with which strong and varied shades that are resistant to external attacking factors such as bad weather and shampooing, for which there is no observation of any problem of change in colour over time.
