This invention embodies a catalyst and a process for transalkylation of C 7 , C 9 , and C 10 aromatics to obtain a high yield of xylenes. The catalyst comprises a novel UZM-14 catalytic material comprising globular aggregates of crystallites having a MOR framework type with a mean crystallite length parallel to the direction of the 12 ring channels of 60 nm or less and a mesopore volume of at least 0.10 cc/gram. The UZM-14 catalyst is particularly active and stable in a transalkylation process.

In a process for converting methane to liquid hydrocarbons, a feed containing methane is contacted with 0 dehydrocyclization catalyst under conditions effective to convert said methane to aromatic hydrocarbons, including benzene and/or naphthalene, and produce a first effluent stream comprising hydrogen and 0t least 5wt% m>35 aromatic hydrocarbons than said feed. At least part the aromatic hydrocarbons from the first effluent stream is then reacted with hydrogen to produce a second effluent stream having a reduced benzene and/or naphthalene content compared with said first effluent stream.

A method of obtaining a thermal cracking feedstock for the production of olefins from an in-situ extracted oil-shale formation. The method comprises the steps of obtaining compositional analyses data for a set of in-situ extracted shale oils, the set of in-situ extracted shale oils produced at varied production temperatures and/or levels of lithostatic stress; determining from the compositional analyses data a value of a production temperature or a lithostatic stress that when achieved produces an in-situ extracted shale oil having a concentration of aromatics at or below a target level, the target level suitable for the production of olefins by thermal cracking; adjusting oil-shale formation extraction conditions to achieve the values for production temperature and/or lithostatic stress; and producing an in-situ extracted shale oil suitable for use as a thermal cracking feedstock for the production of olefins. A method for processing a hydrocarbon produced from a feed oil-shale formation to produce olefins is also provided.

The invention concerns an improved method for making high-quality basic oils optionally with simultaneous production of high-quality middle distillates, comprising hydrotreatment steps, preferably hydrocracking, on Y or beta zeolite, atmospheric distillation. The effluent (which is not vacuum-distilled) is subjected to catalytic dewaxing, preferably on NU-10, EU-1, EU-13 zeolite or ferrierite. The method then comprises steps of hydrofinishing to hydrogenate the aromatics, preferably on a catalyst comprising at least one noble metal of group VIII, chlorine and fluorine, and steps of atmospheric and vacuum distillation. The properties of the oils and the middle distillates are enhanced (flow point, viscosity index, aromatic content) resulting even in to medicinal oils.

The silica-alumina composite material generally comprises at least two silica-aluminas, the first being a modified first silica-alumina, and the second being a second silica-alumina that is unmodified or modified. The first silica-alumina is modified to comprise silica and alumina domains and a silica-alumina interphase. The second silica-alumina may also be modified at the same time or separately to comprise silica and alumina domains and a silica-alumina interphase. The first silica-alumina and the second silica-alumina differ in one or more physical and/or chemical characteristics, e.g., the ratio of silica to alumina, surface area, pore size, pore volume, silica domain size, or alumina domain size. The invention can be used for making catalyst base materials and catalysts useful for upgrading hydrocarbon feedstocks to produce fuels, lubricants, chemicals and other hydrocarbonaceous compositions.

A process for the preparation of aromatic compounds from a feed stream containing biomass or mixtures of biomass, the process comprising: a) subjecting a feed stream containing biomass or mixtures of biomass to a process to afford a conversion product comprising aromatic compounds; b) recovering the aromatic compounds from said conversion product; c) separating a higher molecular weight fraction comprising polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) from a lower molecular weight fraction comprising benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) by distillation; d) reducing at least part of said higher molecular weight fraction to obtain a reduced fraction comprising polycyclic aliphatics (PCA); and e) subjecting the higher molecular weight fraction obtained in step c), the reduced fraction obtained in step d), or a mixture thereof, to a process to obtain lower molecular weight aromatics (BTX).
