A heat-shrinkable multilayer casing film, comprising at least 5 layers including an outer layer (a) comprising an aliphatic copolyamide resin, an adhesive resin layer (b), an intermediate layer (c) comprising an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin having a vinyl acetate content of 3 - 12 wt.%, an adhesive resin layer (b) and an inner layer (d) comprising an aliphatic polyamide resin disposed in an order of from the outer layer toward the inner layer; wherein the multilayer casing film has a hot-water shrinkability at 90°C of 10 - 30 % each in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction, and the total thickness of the outer layer (a) and the inner layer (d) is 40 - 60 % of the whole thickness of the multilayer casing film. The heat-shrinkable multilayer casing film exhibits improved properties with respect to lay-flat width stability, ring-formability, and coloring irregularity while retaining various properties such as gas-barrier property, meat adhesion, heat resistance, strength, and shirrability.

Disclosed is a shirred, tubular food casing that is based on a thermoplastic blend containing at least one polyamide and/or copolyamide and at least one hydrophilic component. Said casing is biaxially stretchable while being impregnated on the inside and/or outside with a component that makes the creases which are formed during shirring of the casing adhere to each other. Said component preferably comprises at least one polymer. The casing is preferably shirred at a ratio of 80:1 to 500:1. The inventive shirred casing is particularly stable from a mechanical perspective and can therefore be used especially for the production of cooked sausages, boiled sausages, and small sausages on fully automated sausage stuffing and clipping devices.
