The present invention provides an indexed support substrate. The support substrate comprises at least one set of indexing features that are distinguishable from one another and from the surrounding substrate. The support substrate also comprises a set of useful domains. The indexing features are positioned on the substrate in such a way as to correspond to the useful domains in an identifying fashion.

Combinations, called matrices with memories, of matrix materials with remotely addressable or remotely programmable recording devices that contain at least one data storage unit are provided. The matrix materials are those that are used in as supports in solid phase chemical and biochemical syntheses, immunoassays and hybridization reactions. The matrix materials may additionally include fluophors or other luminescent moieties to produce luminescing matrices with memories. The data storage units are non-volatile antifuse memories or volatile memories, such as EEPROMS, DRAMS or flash memory. By virtue of this combination, molecules and biological particles, such as phage and viral particles and cells, that are in proximity or in physical contact with the matrix combination can be labeled by programming the memory with identifying information and can be identified by retrieving the stored information. Combinations of matrix materials, memories, and linked molecules and biological materials are also provided. The combinations have a multiplicity of applications, including combinatorial chemistry, isolation and purification of target macromolecules, capture and detection of macromolecules for analytical purposes, selective removal of contaminants, enzymatic catalysis, cell sorting, drug delivery, chemical modification and other uses. Methods for electronically tagging molecules, biological particles and matrix support materials, immuoassays, receptor binding assays, scintillation proximity assays, non-radioactive proximity assays, and other methods are also provided.
摘要:
The invention provides an exemplary chemical library which includes a plurality of constructs which are separable into physically distinct groups. The constructs in each group have at least one common physical characteristic, which is physically distinct from the physical characteristics of the constructs in all other groups. The physical characteristics represent the manner by which the group is testable. The constructs are especially bead-linker-tag-ligand systems. The physical characteristics are especially the size or density of the bead. Preferably, the physical characteristic of a bead is indicative of the type of linker used, which provides easy recognition of constructs suitable for use in specific assays.

Microdevices containing a predetermined preferential axis of magnetization are disposed in an array having discreet regions. Under influence of a magnetic field, the microdevices can have at least twelve discrete orientations, and can advantageously be flipped upside down in place. Microdevices can be coded in a manner that supports a coding space of at least 102, 103, 106 or even 1010 or more choices, and can include one or more chemically reactive sites. The regions can be defined by long and short bars, in which microdevices span gaps between the longer bars, and the shorter bars measure less than 60% of such gaps. Preferred embodiments are also provided to produce microfabricated microdevices for magnetic assembly-based arraying.

This invention relates to microfluidic apparatus for reading, writing and sorting magnetic tags attached to chemical and biological molecules and other entities. We describe apparatus for separating chemical or biological molecules or moieties each individually attached to a MBM tag miniature multi-bit magnetic tag capable of adopting a plurality of remanent magnetic configurations corresponding to binary information, the apparatus comprising: at least one input for said tagged molecules or moieties; at least two outputs for said tagged molecules or moieties; a microfluidic flow channel incorporating: magnetic readers to read said binary information; magnetic writers to write said binary information; and a switch to direct said tagged molecules or moieties to a selected said output responsive to said binary information.
