The lime-free admixture compositions are non-corrosive, making them safe to use by workers and they have rheological properties that make them suitable for use in various applications including concrete, mortars, grouts and stuccos (renders).

A method of preventing the spot formation which occurs on the surface of paving stones when joining paving stones by means of reactive resin mortars, wherein a) a protective layer (A) comprising A1) from 5 to 99.5% by weight of a water-soluble and/or water-dispersible polymer, A2) from 0.5 to 35% by weight of an evaporation accelerator selected from the group consisting of alcohols, glycol ethers, ketones and any mixtures thereof, A3) if appropriate, water as balance is applied to the paving stones before joining, b) after drying of the protective layer, the reactive resin mortar is introduced and c) after curing of the reactive resin mortar, the protective layer (A) is cleaned off together with the adhering reactive resin residues by means of water, is described. The method of the invention makes rapid joining of paving stones by means of reactive resin mortars and reliable prevention of spot formation on the surface of these paving stones possible.

A cementitious veneer and laminate composition is provided. The cementitious laminate composition includes a substrate (10), a primer layer (20) applied to the substrate (10), the primer layer (20) comprising a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol catalyst, Portland cement, and sand; and a cementitious veneer (30) layer applied to the primer layer (20), the veneer layer (30) comprising a mixture of magnesium sulfate, filler, magnesium oxide, gypsum cement, and polyvinyl alcohol catalyst. The polyvinyl alcohol catalyst comprises a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol fibers dissolved in water and mixed with butylene carbonate. The veneer layer (30) is applied to the substrate (10) and primer layer (20) by means including spraying and manual spreading. The veneer layer (30) can be ornamentally manipulated either before or after curing of the veneer layer (30). The veneer layer (30) composition can be formed into laminated tiles for use in building applications.

The invention concerns the use of redispersion powder for priming mineral and non-mineral substrates before coating, in particular filling. The redispersion powder based on acrylate and vinyl ester copolymers, in particular vinyl acetate and ethylene, can be used together with the conventional components either as a pourable dry mixture or as a paste (with up to 35 % water). Rather than impairing the adhesion of the filler compound, the high redispersion powder content tends to improve it.

A building material containing inorganic fibers (e.g. concrete containing asbestos or rock wool) is impregnated (by coating, spraying, dipping or pumping through injected needles (2, Fig. 3) with an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol preferably of polymerization degree 250-500, or of such alcohol which has been denatured with an acid (e.g. maleic or sulfonic) and preferably of polymerization degree 500 or less, in amounts of 2-30 parts by wt. of PVA per 100 of water. Additives may be present in the solution, e.g. pigment or antiseptic. The denatured PVA solution is a novel treating agent. The solution used has excellent penetrating and film-forming properties and serves to adhere the inroganic fibers to prevent them from being scattered during building or demolition work.

The present invention provides bi-component polymeric macrofibers having an ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) outer component and a core or second component comprising a polymer blend of polypropylene grafted with maleic anhydride and polypropylene or polyethylene. The bi-component polymeric macrofibers provide excellent fiber reinforcement in concrete applications.
