The rotor may include a plurality of rotor windings wrapped around a plurality of circumferentially spaced rotor protrusions. The electric machine may include a rotor power transfer circuit operable for reconfiguring electrical excitation of the rotor windings according to a plurality of excitation modes.

Abstract: Multi-switch module packaging for a multilevel inverter is provided. A multilevel inverter is connected to the battery. The multilevel inverter includes three levels, each of the three levels having a first module and a second module. The first module is formed on a first insulating substrate material, and the second module is formed on a second insulating substrate material separate from the first insulating substrate material. The first module includes a first switch coupled to the battery via a positive power rail, a second switch coupled to the battery via a negative power rail, and a third switch coupled to the second module. The second module includes another first switch coupled to the battery, another second switch coupled to the battery, and another third switch coupled to the first module. The first module includes four terminals and the second module includes another four terminals.

Abstract: A motor system includes a rechargeable energy storage system, an alternating current motor, and a power inverter. Multiple efficiency maps may be provided, each representing a specific combination of control parameters and associated settings. The maps relate the motor's operating space (torque and speed) to corresponding efficiency solutions. The combination of control parameters and settings that yields the highest motor system efficiency at an operating point may be determined from the multiple efficiency maps and used in controlling the motor.

Abstract: An electric motor configuration includes a dual output multilevel inverter. The inverter includes a first and second set of alternating current (AC) phase outputs. The first set of AC phase outputs provide a current, each phase output of the first set of AC phase outputs corresponds to a phase output of the second set of AC phase outputs, and each phase output of the first set of AC phase outputs is offset from the corresponding phase output of the second set of phase outputs by 180 degrees. An electric motor includes a first and second set of antiparallel motor windings. The first set of motor windings is connected to the first set of AC phase outputs and the second set of motor windings are connected to the second set of AC phase outputs. The electric motor includes a mechanical rotation output.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure include a 1.5 sided cooled power module for enhanced cooling and gate connections. An exemplary cooled power module can include an upside direct bond copper (DBC) having a first top copper layer, a first bottom copper layer, and a first dielectric layer between the first top copper layer and the first bottom copper layer. A downside DBC includes a second top copper layer, a second bottom copper layer, and a second dielectric layer between the second top copper layer and the second bottom copper layer. One or more dies are positioned between the upside DBC and the downside DBC. The upside DBC is sized such that a portion of an uppermost surface of the one or more dies remains exposed. Bond wires are placed on the exposed portion of the one or more dies and terminated on the first top copper layer of the upside DBC.

The gate controller is configured to apply a gate current to the switch at a first on-current control level during a first switch-on stage of a turn-on operation of the switch, lower the gate current to a second on-current control level less than the first on-current control level during a second switch-on stage of the turn-on operation, and raise the gate current to a third on-current control level during a third switch-on stage of the turn-on operation, wherein the third on-current control level is greater than the second on-current control level.
