Abstract: THIS SPECIFICATION DESCRIBES THE WIRING OF FERRITE CORE MATRICES. FIRST A NUMBER OF WIRES WITH APERTURED FERRITE ELEMENTS STRUNG ON THEM ARE ARRANGED SIDE BY SIDE TO FORM COLUMNS OF FERRITE ELEMENTS AND SLIDE BACK AND FORTH ON THE WIRES. THEREAFTER, ONE ELEMENT ON EACH LENGTH OF WIRE IS ADVANCED TO A WIRING POSITION TO FORM A FIRST SELECTED ROW OF FERRITE ELEMENTS. THEN A ROW WIRE IS INSERTED THROUGH THE FERRITE ELEMENTS IN THE FIRST SELECTED ROW. AFTER THE ROW WIRE IS INSERTED, THE FERRITE ELEMENTS OF THE ROW ARE TESTED. ONCE THE FERRITE CORES IN THE FIRST SELECTED ROW TEST GOOD, THE PROCESS IS REPEATED FOR A SECOND ROW. PREFERABLY, THE SELECTED ROW OF FERRITE ELEMENTS IS HELD IN POSITION BY AIR DIRECTED AT THE ELEMENTS.

Abstract: An improved system is provided for positioning a circuit board with respect to wire handling and bonding apparatus. The board is movable in an X-Y plane, can be raised or lowered along a Z dimension axis, and can be rotated about the Z dimension axis. Separate X, Y, Z, and rotational dimension electric motors are mounted on a stationary base. A differential mechanism couples an X positioning mechanism to respond to the difference between the X dimension motor position and the rotational dimension motor position. The differential mechanism prevents changes in the rotational position of the X positioning mechanism from affecting the X dimension position. A similar differential mechanism couples the Y positioning mechanism to the Y drive motor and to the rotational dimension drive motor.

Abstract: Apparatus for automatically bonding wires to spaced terminals has forming means for moving the end of a length of wire into a bonding position with the end thereof presented between the jaws of a clamping and pulling means which clamps the wire end during a bonding and then pulls the wire to break off a portion thereof beyond the bond, the forming means being also used to determine the shape and height of staples between bonds. A stripper removes the insulation from the portion of wire to be bonded. For bonding paired wires simultaneously to a terminal pad and a ground grid, the apparatus includes a spreader which positions both wires accurately in bonding grooves of a bonding tip and a twister for twisting the paired wires between bonds.
