Abstract: An electric motor control system and methods of manufacture are provided. The system includes a power supply module including a printed circuit board (PCB) and a plurality of power processing components configured to convert an input voltage into an output voltage. The system also includes a motor management module including an encapsulated, heat-sharing package for housing a plurality of moisture-sensitive driver components configured to convert the output voltage from the power supply module and provide output voltages for application to windings of the electric motor.

Abstract: A motor controller and methods for operating a motor are described herein. The motor controller includes a high-frequency (HF) inverter having a direct current (DC) input stage and an alternating current (AC) output stage, the HF inverter operable at a switching frequency to generate a three-phase output having a fundamental frequency. The motor controller also includes a differential mode (DM) filter coupled in series with the output stage of the HF inverter and having a resonant frequency less than 10% of the switching frequency, the DM filter configured to reduce harmonic components of the three-phase output and generate a first filtered output. The motor controller further includes a common mode (CM) filter coupled in series with the DM filter, the CM filter configured to filter the first filtered output to generate a second filtered output having a reduced CM voltage to operate the electric motor with a reduced bearing current.

Abstract: An EMI filter is described that includes an input having first and second input terminals, and an output having first and second output terminals. A first conductive path is defined between the first input and output terminals, and a second conductive path is defined between the second input and output terminals. The EMI filter also includes a first choke device coupled across the first and second conductive paths, and a first Y capacitor including a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end coupled to the first conductive path downstream from the first choke device. The EMI filter further includes a second Y capacitor including a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end coupled to the second conductive path downstream from the first choke device, and a second choke device coupled to an inverter output.

Abstract: Protection of an electric motor drive controller from a transient voltage is described herein. The transient voltage is provided by an alternating current (AC) power line that includes a line conductor, a neutral conductor, and a ground conductor. The transient voltage protection system includes a first stage protection device coupled to an input of a rectifier of the motor drive controller. The first stage protection device is configured to suppress the transient voltage to prevent damage to the motor drive controller. The transient voltage protection system also includes a second stage protection device coupled between the rectifier and an inverter of the motor drive controller. The second stage protection device is configured to further suppress the transient voltage to prevent damage to the inverter.

Abstract: A ground assembly includes a first layer, a second layer, and a bypass capacitor. The first layer includes a power ground, a communication ground spaced from the power ground, a conductive path defining a parasitic inductance and electrically coupled between the power ground and the communication ground, and an electrically insulating layer. At least a portion of the insulating layer is positioned between the power and communication grounds. The second layer includes a first substrate that is spaced from the power ground to define a first parasitic capacitance therebetween and is spaced from the communication ground to define a second parasitic capacitance therebetween. The bypass capacitor is electrically coupled between the power ground and the first substrate.

Abstract: A motor controller for controlling an electric motor includes at least one integrated sensor disposed on the electric motor. The least one integrated sensor is configured to collect sensor data associated with a status of the electric motor for a period of time, the period of time beginning at an activation time and extending at least until an installation time. The motor controller may include an energy management system configured to power the at least one integrated sensor for at least a portion of the period of time, and a memory device configured to store the sensor data. The motor controller may include a data management system configured to communicate the sensor data from the at least one integrated sensor to at least one of the memory device and a remote device.

Abstract: An electric motor controller, an electric motor drive circuit, and methods for combined electric motor control are provided. The drive circuit is configured to drive a first electric motor and a second electric motor. The drive circuit includes a rectifier configured to convert an AC input voltage to a pulsed DC voltage, and a first DC link electrically coupled to the rectifier. The first DC-link includes a low-capacitance capacitor having a capacitance less than 10 μF. The drive circuit also includes a first inverter coupled to the first DC-link, the first inverter configured to generate a conditioned output voltage to drive the first electric motor, a second DC-link electrically coupled to the first DC-link, and a second inverter coupled to the second DC-link. The second inverter is configured to generate a conditioned output voltage to drive the second electric motor.
