A control system for an electric motor for a fluid moving apparatus includes a drive circuit and a processor. The drive circuit regulates power supplied to the motor to generate fluid flow. The processor is coupled to the drive circuit and controls the drive circuit to operate the motor at a first speed and torque, and at a second speed and torque, receive a first flow corresponding to the first speed and torque, determine a second flow based on a ratio of the first flow to the first speed, and corresponding to the second speed and torque. The processor is configured to define an algorithm based on the first and second speed, torque, and flow, compute a set point for a demanded flow using the algorithm, and control the drive circuit based on the set point to supply power to the motor and generate the flow.
Abstract:
A motor controller for an electric motor for driving a blower to generate an airflow. The motor controller includes a processor and a drive circuit configured to regulate power supplied to the motor to turn the blower. The processor computes a system resistance for the blower based on a fixed set point for a first control parameter and a feedback parameter. The processor receives an airflow rate demand value and computes an operating set point for a second control parameter based on the system resistance and the airflow rate demand value. The processor controls the drive circuit based on the operating set point to supply electrical power to the electric motor and to operate the blower to generate the airflow.

An electric motor communication system for use with a fluid moving system and using at least one wireless sensor network is provided. The electric motor communication system includes an electric motor that includes a motor management device configured to transmit and receive input signals via the wireless sensor network, and a processing device coupled to said motor management device and configured to control said electric motor based at least in part on input signals received at said motor management device. The electric motor communication system also includes at least one external device configured to collect data and to transmit said input signals, via the wireless sensor network, to said electric motor.

The motor controller includes a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, a first input coupled to the processor, wherein the first input is associated with a first mode of operation, and a second input coupled to the processor, wherein the second input is associated with a calibration mode. The motor controller is configured to receive, through the first input, a first activation signal, operate the motor in the first mode of operation in response to receiving the first activation signal, while operating the motor in the first mode of operation, receive, through the second input, a second activation signal, in response to receiving the first activation signal and the second activation signal, adjust a value of a parameter associated with the first mode of operation, and store the value of the parameter in the memory.

A ground assembly includes a first layer, a second layer, and a bypass capacitor. The first layer includes a power ground, a communication ground spaced from the power ground, a conductive path defining a parasitic inductance and electrically coupled between the power ground and the communication ground, and an electrically insulating layer. At least a portion of the insulating layer is positioned between the power and communication grounds. The second layer includes a first substrate that is spaced from the power ground to define a first parasitic capacitance therebetween and is spaced from the communication ground to define a second parasitic capacitance therebetween. The bypass capacitor is electrically coupled between the power ground and the first substrate.

A motor controller for controlling an electric motor includes at least one integrated sensor disposed on the electric motor. The least one integrated sensor is configured to collect sensor data associated with a status of the electric motor for a period of time, the period of time beginning at an activation time and extending at least until an installation time. The motor controller may include an energy management system configured to power the at least one integrated sensor for at least a portion of the period of time, and a memory device configured to store the sensor data. The motor controller may include a data management system configured to communicate the sensor data from the at least one integrated sensor to at least one of the memory device and a remote device.

An electric motor controller, an electric motor drive circuit, and methods for combined electric motor control are provided. The drive circuit is configured to drive a first electric motor and a second electric motor. The drive circuit includes a rectifier configured to convert an AC input voltage to a pulsed DC voltage, and a first DC link electrically coupled to the rectifier. The first DC-link includes a low-capacitance capacitor having a capacitance less than 10 μF. The drive circuit also includes a first inverter coupled to the first DC-link, the first inverter configured to generate a conditioned output voltage to drive the first electric motor, a second DC-link electrically coupled to the first DC-link, and a second inverter coupled to the second DC-link. The second inverter is configured to generate a conditioned output voltage to drive the second electric motor.

A motor controller is provided that includes an inverter configured to drive an electric motor, a rectifier configured to rectify an alternating current (AC) input current and to output the rectified AC input current to the inverter, and a controller coupled to the inverter. The controller is configured to improve a power factor of the motor controller by controlling the AC input current based on a direct current (DC) link voltage measurement.
