摘要: Lung clamp end effectors for a thoracoscopic surgical instrument are disclosed. The lung clamp end effectors have a base portion, an intermediate portion, and a distal portion. Each base portion has a first through-hole for pivotally engaging a pin of the clevis of the thoracoscopic surgical instrument, and preferably, a second through-hole used in conjunction with connecting links which connect the lung clamp end effector to the push rod. The through-holes on a particular end effector are located on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the tool, thereby providing strong clamping action. The lung clamps are further arranged with their distal portions increasing in width to approximately 10 mm as they extend distally. The distal portion also have cut-outs which increase in width as they extend distally. The lung clamp end effectors are at least two inches long from their respective pivot through-holes to their respective distal ends.

摘要: Disposable laparoscopic colo-rectal surgical bowel clamps for insertion through trocar tubes are disclosed. The instruments broadly include: a hollow aluminum tube; an aluminum clevis which is formed separately from the aluminum tube with the distal end of the hollow aluminum tube crimped around the proximal end of the clevis; axially off-set pivot pins coupled to the clevis; two bowel clamp blades each having a pivot hole through which the off-set pivot pin of the clevis is pivotally engaged, and each having another through-hole; an aluminum push rod extending at least partially through the hollow aluminum tube and apparatus for imparting reciprocal motion to the push rod relative to the aluminum tube, whereby the reciprocal motion is translated at an offset pivot of the clevis into high leverage pivotal motion of the blades. The blades are configured with bowed intermediate sections, and cutout proximal sections for the grasping and clamping of a bowel portion or other relatively large anatomical parts.

摘要: Disposable laparoscopic surgical instruments for insertion through trocar tubes are disclosed. The instruments broadly include: a hollow aluminum tube; an aluminum clevis which is formed separately from the aluminum tube with the distal end of the hollow aluminum tube crimped around the proximal end of the clevis, and with the clevis including an axially off-set pivot pin; at least one end effector element having a pivot hole through which the off-set pivot pin of the clevis is pivotally engaged, and another through-hole; an aluminum push rod extending at least partially through the hollow aluminum tube and mechanically coupled to the end effector element; and apparatus for imparting reciprocal motion to the push rod relative to the aluminum tube, whereby the reciprocal motion is translated at an offset pivot of the clevis into a high torque pivotal motion of the end effector element.

摘要: A surgical clip has a base portion and two generally parallel, spaced arms extending from the base portion and defining an opening therebetween. The arms terminate distally in fingers which are of reduced width and thickness relative to the arms and which are adapted to be bent towards and past each other. A transition section from each arm to the finger provides curved structures which extending away from each other and providing a wider mouth for the opening between the arms. The arms also have a proximal section with an undercut which helps in flexure of the arms. The base is an extended structure having a rounded proximal end with outwardly extending shoulders which are arranged to be engaged by the curved structures of the mouth of another clip.

摘要: A disposable ultrasonic surgical handle connectable to an ultrasonic transducer, an ultrasonic waveguide, a removable battery, and an ultrasonic-signal-generator assembly, includes a handle body with a portion defining a battery-holding compartment, the battery-holding compartment having at least two battery contacts, a waveguide attachment dock exposed to the environment and shaped to accept the waveguide therein, a transducer attachment dock exposed to the environment and shaped to place the ultrasonic transducer in coaxial alignment with the waveguide when the waveguide is disposed within the waveguide attachment dock, and an ultrasonic-signal-generator assembly dock exposed to the environment. The ultrasonic-signal-generator assembly dock is shaped to substantially simultaneously selectively removably secure the ultrasonic-signal-generator assembly to the handle body, place an end of the ultrasonic transducer within the transducer attachment dock, and electrically couple the ultrasonic-signal-generator assembly to the at least two battery contacts.

The disposable ultrasonic surgical handle also includes a disposable compartment door movably connected to the second handle body portion to selectively expose the assembly dock to the environment, where the handle has an open position exposing the assembly dock to the environment and permitting entry and removal of the powered-ultrasonic-motion-generator assembly respectively into and from the assembly dock and a closed position aseptically sealing the assembly dock from the environment.

摘要: A disposable ultrasonic surgical handle includes a disposable handle body defining a battery-holding compartment shaped to receive a battery therein and operable to couple a proximal end of an ultrasonic waveguide to an ultrasonic transducer therethrough. The body has a transducer dock exposed to the environment and interchangeably housing the transducer and a waveguide attachment dock shaped to align and attach the proximal end of the waveguide to the transducer and hold them at the body when the respectively docked at the transducer and attachment docks. A disposable driving-wave generation circuit in the handle body electrically contacts the battery and the transducer when the battery and the transducer are disposed respectively in the battery-holding compartment and the transducer dock. The circuit generates an output waveform sufficient to cause ultrasonic movement along the waveguide by exciting the transducer when the transducer is coupled to the waveguide.

摘要: A cordless cautery and cutting surgical device includes a modular battery and a surgical handle. The battery has a cordless radio-frequency-signal-generation assembly generating an output radio-frequency signal and a first selectively removable connector part. The surgical handle has a first handle body portion with a bipolar cautery and cutting end effector. The end effector has jaws with bipolar contacts and a cutting blade disposed between the jaws. The handle has a second body portion connected to the first body portion, defines therein an aseptically sealable battery-holding compartment selectively exposed to the environment and removably holding therein the battery, and a second selectively removable connector part operable to removably hold the first connector part thereto. The second connector part has conductors electrically connecting the RF assembly to the bipolar contacts for supplying the radio-frequency signal to the bipolar contacts when the first and second connector parts are removably secured together.

摘要: Radioactive therapeutic seeds include a carrier structure bearing a radioactive isotope and a radiopaque marker. According to several embodiments, the seeds include a central plug provided with an axial marker and a relatively transverse bore extending through the marker. A second marker may be positioned in the bore, thereby distinguishing a seed provided with the second marker relative to a seed not provided with the second marker. According to another embodiment, the isotope is deposited on the outer surface of a hollow radiolucent tube. A biologically-compatible, radiolucent, surface-sealing layer seals the external surface of the tube. A radiopaque marker wire of selected length is positioned in the hollow of the tube. Seeds may be distinguished from one another by providing seeds with marker wires of different lengths. According to other embodiments, the seed includes a cylindrical outer member, and an inner member provided within the outer member and having two large diameter portions and a relatively smaller diameter portion therebetween. A marker is disposed within the inner member, and a radioactive isotope is carried on the inner member. The marker may be drilled to a smaller size. Each embodiment permits at least two groups of seeds to be distinguished from one another by the use of differing marker configurations.
