Abstract: An internal combustion engine system includes an internal combustion engine, an exhaust system, an exhaust gas recirculation circuit and a turbocharger including a first turbine interacting with a first compressor for charging air to the internal combustion engine. An exhaust gas recirculation passage is arranged to divert exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine upstream the first turbine and to debouch the exhaust gases downstream the first compressor. The internal combustion engine includes a bleed air channel which is located to divert compressed air at a location in or downstream from the first compressor and upstream of the internal combustion engine. A second turbine is arranged for receiving bleed air from the bleed air channel to recover energy from the bleed air channel. A vehicle including such an internal combustion engine system is also provided.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of operating a four stroke internal combustion engine system (1), the engine system (1) comprising:—a four stroke internal combustion engine (2) provided with an intake duct (5),—a turbo compressor (6″) arranged to compress intake flow in the intake duct (5), and—a displacement machine (7) provided in the intake duct (5) downstream the turbo compressor (6″), wherein the displacement machine (7) is arranged to displace intake flow from an inlet to an outlet thereof. The method comprises the step of: operating the displacement machine (7) in a first mode where a pressure ratio (PR) given by a pressure at the outlet of the displacement machine (7) divided by a pressure at the inlet of the displacement machine (7) is substantially equal to 1. The invention also relates to a four stroke internal combustion engine system arranged to be operated by the above method.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine system includes an internal combustion engine, a first turbine unit receiving exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine, the turbine unit having a compressor for compressing intake air and feeding the intake air by an air intake line to the internal combustion engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation line connecting the air intake line with an exhaust as line of the internal combustion engine at a position upstream the first turbine unit. A bypass line connects the exhaust gas recirculation line to the exhaust gas line at a position downstream of the turbine unit, the bypass line having an arrangement for controlling the exhaust gas flow from the exhaust gas recirculation line to the exhaust gas line.
