    摘要: A wing foil bearing may include one or more wing or tab foil layers. A tab foil layer may comprise a thin material with a two-dimensional array of tab shapes. A tab shape may be defined by a boundary of material separated from the thin material and having an integral edge and a free edge. Tab shapes may include one or more free-state bends relative to the thin material, forming a two-dimensional array of cantilever wings or tabs. Tab arrays may be one or more of various types or two-dimensional arrays, and a tab foil layer may include additional tab arrays and tabs. One or more tab foil layers may be engaged with a mounting surface layer and a counter-surface layer to form a wing foil bearing. Tab foil layers may be stacked and or nested, including partial nesting and complete nesting.

    摘要: A process for manufacturing a bearing. The bearing may be used in a tool disposed within a bore hole. The process comprises providing a tubular sleeve and applying a hard facing material on the outer diameter of the tubular sleeve so that the hard facing material is fused onto the outer diameter, and thereafter applying a material layer on the outer diameter so that the material layer is fused onto the outer diameter. The method further includes machining the outer diameter so that a portion of the material layer is removed, and then machining the inner diameter so that only the hard facing material is left as an inner diameter. The method further includes machining the outer diameter and the inner diameter in order to form the bearing. In the most preferred embodiment, the method further includes placing the bearing into a housing, and inserting a mandrel into the bearing, and wherein a hard coating of the mandrel abuts the bearing. A mud motor for rotating a bit in a well bore is also disclosed.

    摘要: In spindle motors journaled on fluid-dynamic-pressure bearings, especially in such spindle motors employed in recording-disk drives in implementations that subject the drives to vibration and shock, sealing performance of a capillary seal formed between motor rotor-side and stator-side bearing surfaces, cohesiveness of oil-repellant on rotor-side/stator-side dry-area surfaces adjoining the capillary seal section, and motor inter-component adhesive strength are improved. The capillary-seal-constituting rotor-side/stator-side surface(s) are exposed to a plasma or to ultraviolet rays under predetermined conditions to improve the wettability of the surface(s) for the bearing fluid. The dry-area surface(s) are similarly irradiated so as to improve their wettability for the oil-repellant. Adhesively bonded component surfaces are likewise irradiated so as to improve their wettability for the adhesive, enhancing adhesive strength. Exposed surfaces may be constituted of a synthetic resin to enhance their wettability further, or may be made of metal, to yield a cleaning efficacy from the plasma/UV exposure.

    摘要: A multilayer sliding bearing includes a rigid metal backing having a metal bearing liner attached thereto. The metal bearing liner includes a metal bearing liner layer which is attached to the bearing surface of the metal backing layer and at least one metal overplate layer deposited over an outer surface of the metal bearing liner layer. The metal bearing liner layer has a layer of hard particles embedded in an outer surface thereof which is adjacent to the inner surface of the at least one metal overplate layer. The bearing may also include a barrier layer interposed between the metal bearing liner layer and the metal over plate layer to inhibit diffusion therebetween and/or promote adhesion of the metal over plate layer to the metal bearing liner layer. The invention may also include a thin metal protective coating layer over the outer surface of the bearing liner and backing layer. The invention also includes a method of making a multilayer sliding bearing which includes the steps of fabricating a metal backing layer having a bearing surface, attaching a metal bearing liner layer having an outer surface to the bearing surface of the metal backing layer, embedding a layer of hard particles in the outer surface of the metal bearing liner layer and depositing at least one metal overplate layer over the outer surface of the metal bearing liner layer. The method may also include a step of depositing a barrier layer over the outer surface of the metal bearing liner layer prior to depositing the metal overplate layer.
