    摘要: A medical instrument includes a shaft having an outer surface defining an outer diameter, a tube having an inner surface defining an inner diameter and extending over a portion of the shaft, at least one coil wound in a first rotational direction and provided between the shaft and the tube, the at least one coil having a first portion defining an inner surface interfering with an outer surface of the shaft such that the at least one coil grips the shaft, and a second portion coupled to the inner surface of the tube. The tube is movable longitudinally relative to the shaft in a first longitudinal direction when subject to force in the first longitudinal direction, and the tube is substantially immovable longitudinally relative to the shaft in a second longitudinal direction opposite the first longitudinal direction when subject to force in the second longitudinal direction only. When the tube is subject to rotational force in a second rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction, movement of the tube in the second longitudinal direction relative to the shaft is permitted. Other embodiments are also provided.

    摘要: An endoscopic bioptome includes a flexible coil having a lumen with an axially displaceable wire extending therethrough. The proximal ends of the coil and wire are coupled to a manual actuator for axially displacing one of the coil and wire relative to the other. The distal end of the coil is coupled to either a jaw assembly or a cylinder. The jaw assembly includes a pair of jaws each having a distal jaw cup having a proximal neck and a relatively narrow bent resilient arm. The distal end of the wire is coupled to the other of the cylinder or the jaw assembly. The cylinder is slidable over the jaw assembly. Axial movement of either the wire relative to the coil or vice versa moves the cylinder over the arms of the jaws and over the necks of the jaw cups, thereby forcing the jaw cups together in a biting action. In one embodiment, the axially displaceable wire is provided with a coaxial stopping band or sleeve which stops its movement as soon as the jaws close. In another embodiment, the cylinder is provided with an annular stopping crimp which limits relative displacement of the cylinder and the jaw assembly. In a third embodiment, the cylinder is provided with a radially inward flange and the coil is provided with a reduced diameter portion. In a fourth embodiment, the jaw cups are provided with outer surface steps. In all of the embodiments, the limitation of displacement has the effect of limiting the cutting force applied to the jaws.

    摘要: A deflection-limiting clevis includes a substantially cylindrical base with a pair of clevis arms extending therefrom, a clevis axle extending between distal ends of the clevis arms and a pair of stops located on interior portions of the clevis arms between the base and the axle. The stops are dimensioned and located to engage respective tangs of a pair of jaws, which are mounted on the axle, when the jaws are deflected across the center line of the clevis. A first embodiment of the clevis may be used with or without a conventional flat needle between the jaws. In a second embodiment of the clevis, a cross member is located between the clevis arms proximal of the clevis axle and distal of the cylindrical base. The cross member may be used to engage the proximal end of a shortened flat needle which is mounted between the jaws and is also used to engage the tangs of the jaws when the jaws are rotated about the axle to a point of deflection. A third embodiment of the invention combines aspects of the first and second embodiments and includes both a pair of stops located on interior portions of the clevis arms between the base and the axle and a cross member located between the stops and the cylindrical base. The third embodiment allows allowing the use of a shortened flat needle while also allowing some deflection of the jaws.

At least one jaw is moveable relative to the other about a pivot between open and closed positions for grasping tissue. At least one jaw includes a control trough that extends therealong. The pivot has first and second pivot bosses defining a pivot hole therebetween. The cutting assembly includes a blade and blade control portion, and defines a longitudinal axis through the blade and the control portion. The control portion slidably translates through the pivot hole defined between the pivot bosses to allow selective advancement thereof through the trough. The blade is disposed distally of the pivot and extends farther from the axis than an outer surface of the control portion. The cam assembly is coupled to the moveable jaw and is actuatable to move the moveable jaw between the positions.

    摘要: A battery assembly is used in battery-powered surgical instruments with handles having a battery chamber and different handle types. The battery assembly includes a housing having an exterior shape formed to removably connect with the battery chamber of the handles and a voltage-control circuit. The housing has at least one energy storage cell operable to power a signal generation assembly of the surgical instruments and a battery/handle interface having a plurality of connectors shaped to mate with a plurality of corresponding connectors within the battery chamber of the handles. The voltage-control circuit is operable to communicatively couple with and provide power to the signal generation assembly, detect which one of the handle types is connected to the housing, provide a first output in response to a detection of a first handle type, and provide at least a second output in response to a detection of a second handle type.
