    摘要: An optical article is disclosed comprised of an organic layer unit exhibiting a second order polarization susceptibility greater than 10.sup.-9 esu and means for providing an optical input to and an optical output from the layer unit. The organic layer unit exhibits a transmission attenuation of less than 2 dB/cm and is comprised of a Y type Langmuir-Blodgett assembly having superimposed oriented monomolecular layers of first and second polymeric amphiphiles each containing repeating units comprised of a hydrophilic moiety and a lipophilic moiety. Repeating units of one or both of the first and second amphiphiles each contain an organic molecular dipole, and repeating units of one or both of the first and second amphiphiles each contains a branched lipophilic moiety of up to 9 carbon atoms.

    摘要: Miscible compositions comprising from about 1 part by weight to about 99 parts by weight of an aromatic polyimide and from about 99 parts by weight to about 1 part by weight of an aromatic polybenzimidazole. Preferably, the composition comprises from about 5 parts by weight to about 95 parts by weight of an aromatic polyimide and from about 95 parts by weight to about 5 parts by weight of an aromatic polybenzimidazole. In a composition mostly comprised of an aromatic polybenzimidazole, it is preferred that the aromatic polyimide be thermoplastic and be present in the composition in an amount sufficient to make the aromatic polybenzimidazole more processable for molding purposes and also less susceptible to moisture. More preferably, such compositions are comprised of from about 65 parts by weight to about 95 parts by weight of an aromatic polybenzimidazole and from about 35 parts by weight to about 5 parts by weight of a thermoplastic aromatic polyimide. In a composition mostly comprised of a soluble, thermoplastic aromatic polyimide, it is preferred that the aromatic polybenzimidazole be present in an amount sufficient to render the soluble thermoplastic aromatic polyimide less sensitive to solvents, and to increase its glass transition temperature. More preferably, such compositions are comprised of from about 6 parts by weight to about 95 parts by weight of a soluble thermoplastic aromatic polyimide and from about 35 parts by weight to about 5 parts by weight of an aromatic polybenzimidazole.

    摘要: Photoconductive composition comprising an insulating polymeric matrix and a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or nitrile; and R', R" and R'" are independently selected from an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from about 1 to about 10 carbon atoms; phenyl; or substituted phenyl, said phenyl substituents being capable of releasing electrons to relatively electron deficient centers within the compound; amino; diarylamino; dialkylamino or alkoxy; and n can range from 0 up to the potential number of positions of substitution on the aromatic ring system.These compositions have good spectral response in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum and are suitable for use in electrostatographic imaging members and methods.
