Abstract:
A full-flow microfiltration device (12) and method for filtering fluid in a hydraulic system (10) is provided. The filtration device (12) includes a housing (22) and a filter medium (24) sealingly coupled to and contained within the housing (22). The housing (22) and the filter medium (24) define a central chamber (26) and a concentric chamber (28). The central chamber (26) directly communicates with an entry port (34) and an exit port (36) formed within the housing (22) for directing a first flow through the filter device (12). The concentric chamber (28) directly communicates with an inlet port (38) and an outlet port (40) formed within the housing (22) for directing a second flow through the filter device (12). A portion of the second flow is drawn from the concentric chamber (28) through the filter medium (24) into the central chamber (26) and into the first flow.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high-downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.
Abstract:
The invention described herein is drawn to a hollow cylindrical filter for use with a suction canister comprising a first portion having an open end and a first wall thickness, a second portion having a closed end and second wall thickness less than said first wall thickness, and an elongate central chamber having a substantially uniform diameter along its length. The filter is composed of a composite material comprising a porous plastic material and material adapted to increase the viscosity of a liquid coming into contact therewith. The filter is constructed to accommodate the changes associated with air flow velocity and shear force across the filter material as the fluid level in the canister rises, and automatically shuts off the vacuum to the interior environment of the suction canister. The invention also includes a filter system comprising such a filter in combination with a filter shield which accommodates the filter within and attaches to, or is alternatively integrated with, the underside of a suction canister lid.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for removing debris suspended in a main fluid flow using a fluid strainer that uses an integrated nozzle/diffuser for discharging debris that is dislodged from an internal porous surface.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a filter apparatus for use in removing impurities and acids contained in a fluid that includes a particulate filter and an acid-neutralizing filter. Preferably, the particulate filter and the acid-neutralizing filter are positioned within a housing. A conduit having a pressure reduction section is arranged to create a pressure differential across the acid-neutralizing filter such that a portion of the fluid to be filtered by the filter apparatus passes through the acid-neutralizing filter.
Abstract:
A simplified single cell apparatus and method for removal of suspended impurities in liquids using gas flotation and filtration is provided wherein the method and apparatus are preferably directed to induced gas flotation separation of suspended impurities in combination with a filter media for filtration removal of remaining suspended impurities. A filter media is contained within the single cell apparatus such that liquid exiting the vessel must pass through the filter media after having been subjected to flotation treatment.
Abstract:
An apparatus for expelling gas from within a sealed container. The apparatus may include a device for collecting gas in a predetermined area within the container as well as a device for drawing the gas out of the predetermined area and for directing the gas into the inlet of a pump. The apparatus eliminates problems related to the buildup of gas within the container such as water noise and vapor lock.
Abstract:
A filter unit including a housing element having a first and a second inlet for fluid and a first and a second outlet for fluid, flow passages defined in the housing defining a first path of flow for fluid between the first inlet and the first outlet of the housing, a flow passage defined in said housing defining a second path of flow for fluid between the second inlet and the second outlet of the housing, and a filter member in housing being capable of filtration to remove particles of dimensions greater than 5 micrometers, the second path of flow including a path through the filter and a by-pass about the filter having a resistance to flow of fluid no greater than that of the filter whereby in normal use a proportion only of fluid passing through the second flow path passes through the filter, provides fine filtration for an internal combustion engine and is attachable to a conventional engine filter mount.
Abstract:
A skimmer is provided for a swimming pool and is constructed in a manner similar to conventional skimmers for a pool so far as the water inlet and filter basket is concerned. Instead of pulling water through the filter basket to the recirculating pump for the pool, however, a water outlet is provided from the bottom of the basket holding cavity of the skimmer; and return water for supply back to the pool is provided by the recirculating pump to an entrainment nozzle device located at the bottom of the filter cavity to pull additional water through the filter cavity to mix with the return water, all of which is supplied to the water outlet located beneath the pool water surface level. Consequently, even if the filter basket should be completely clogged, the water flow through the recirculating system for the pool is not impeded, since the filter basket is not in the primary recirculating path of the pool system.
Abstract:
In a rotary drum or disc filter having circumferentially distributed cells in constant communication through open outlets with a common vacuum chamber, which may be the interior of the drum, or part of that interior, or a separate chamber rotating together with the filter. In a position of each cell where filter cake is to be blown off, a jet of compressed air or steam is injected into the respective outlet through a nozzle which combines with the outlet to form an ejector pump (jet pump).
