    Abstract: An ophthalmic delivery device includes a body defining a fluid reservoir and a pump in fluid communication with the reservoir. The delivery device also includes a nozzle that includes a dosage chamber for holding a dosage of fluid, a valve seat, and a valve cover. The valve cover extends about the valve seat and forms an interface therebetween and the valve seat includes an outlet aperture. The interface is in fluid communication with the outlet aperture and the dosage chamber, and at least part of the valve cover is movable between (i) a closed position with the valve cover engaging the valve seat to close the interface and form a fluid-tight seal therebetween, and (ii) an open position with at least part of the valve cover spaced away from the valve seat in response to fluid flowing through the outlet aperture at a pressure greater than a valve opening pressure to allow the passage of pressurized fluid therebetween. The valve seat and the valve cover are dimensioned to dispense the dosage of fluid through the interface at a velocity of equal to or less than 6 meters per second.

    Abstract: A dispenser adapted to be coupled to a fluid container. The dispenser comprises a dispensing head, an energy source, and a fluid pathway. The dispensing head includes a fluid pump, a motor adapted to power the pump, a trigger adapted to control the motor, and a nozzle orifice in fluid communication with a discharge end of the pump. The fluid pathway has one portion in fluid communication with an intake end of the pump and another portion inside the container. In one embodiment, the fluid pump is a peristaltic pump. The present invention may further include a valve having a membrane for controlling flow through the valve, the membrane having open and closed positions; and an element urges the membrane to the closed position, and a vacuum pressure at one end of the valve may overcome the urging of the element, thereby moving the membrane to the open position.

    Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing a metered volume of a fluid product having a storage chamber for storing the fluid product, an outlet orifice through which the fluid product is dispensable from the dispenser and a metering chamber is disclosed. The metering chamber has an outlet opening which places the metering chamber in fluid communication with the outlet orifice, a transfer opening through which the fluid product is transferable between the storage and metering chambers, and a boundary wall structure which is cyclically movable between a first configuration, in which the transfer opening is opened, and a second configuration, in which the transfer opening is closed. Each cycle of movement which commences at, and ends in, the second configuration results in a metered volume of the fluid product being transferred from the storage chamber to the metering chamber via the transfer opening and dispensed from the outlet orifice via the outlet opening. The dispenser further has an actuation mechanism actuable by a user of the dispenser to cause a cycle of movement of the boundary wall structure. The actuation mechanism is adapted so as to dispose the boundary wall structure in the second configuration at the end of each cycle of movement caused thereby.
