Abstract:
The invention includes a tire having a pair of annular sidewalls each extending to a terminal end including a bottom surface for mounting onto a wheel. The tire further includes indicia arranged along each sidewall adjacent a bottom of each sidewall terminal end. The indicia extends radially outward from an initial position to extend from a top side of a rim flange of a tire wheel for indicating concentric mounting of the tire on a wheel. In particular embodiments, the tire is mounted on a rim of a wheel having rim flanges, each of the rim flanges extending along one of the tire sidewalls such that the indicia is adjacently arranged the rim flange along each sidewall such that the indicia extends radially outward from a top of the rim flange. Methods include using the indicia to determine whether the tire is concentrically mounted on the wheel.
Abstract:
An assembly including a tire having beads, said bead axially including outside the turn-up a layer of a material defining a bead outer profile, such that the distance A, between the carcass frame and the bead outer profile, is as defined in formula (Z), B being the distance between the end of the turn-up, said bead including first and second profiles between the carcass frame and the turn-up, the first profile extends from the bead wire and is made of a material having an extension secant modulus at a 10% elongation higher than 20 MPa, a second profile arranged in the bead such as to be in contact with a surface of the first profile and the turn-up, made of a material having an extension secant modulus at a 10% elongation of at least 7 MPa and an extension secant modulus at a 100*% extension of at least 4.5 MPa.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire has a bead filler, a carcass ply, a side wall rubber and a rim strip rubber. The rim strip rubber has a main portion arranged in an outer side in a tire width direction of the bead filler, and a thin portion arranged between the carcass ply and the side wall rubber. The main portion forms an outer surface of a bead portion. The thin portion extends in the tire diametrical direction at a substantially fixed thickness. An upper end of the thin portion is positioned in an outer side in the tire diametrical direction than an upper end of the bead filler and in an inner side in the tire diametrical direction than a roll-up end of the carcass ply.

Abstract:
A pneumatic tire has a carcass structure extending through a pair of opposing bead portions and an inner liner located inward of the carcass structure, each bead portion comprising a bead core about which is wrapped the carcass structure and a toeguard. Each bead portion has a bead toe, a bead base, and a bead heel, the bead base extending between the bead toe and the bead heel. The bead heel has a profile corresponding to a sector of an ellipse or approximates a sector of an ellipse by having a dual radius structure. The bead base may have a dual taper configuration. The bead core may be substantially centered in the bead portion, as determined by the material thickness at three locations about the bead core.
Abstract:
The removable wheel well obstructor serves as a stable platform for supporting the beads of a flat tire, thereby resulting in a controlled run-flat tire capability. The obstructor is used for obstructing the interior of an annular wheel well of a wheel rim, wherein the wheel well has a predetermined radial depth. The obstructor includes a two-piece annular band of inextensible material of a predetermined axial width, a thickness which is substantially less than the depth of the wheel well and is adapted to circumferentially surround the wheel well, and is provided with an opening through its circumference. A plurality of snap-on frusto-cone shaped shims of a predetermined height are radially and inwardly attached to and spaced around the circumference of the band and are adapted to be received into the wheel well depth. A plurality of height adjusters are respectively attachable to the plurality of snap-on shims for further accommodating a plurality of different radial depths of wheel well.
Abstract:
Tubular structures are described which are composed of multiple layers of reinforced material. The structures include at least one terminal end portion which includes one or more wedges between adjacent layers of reinforced material. The structures may be, for example, hoses, expansion joints, or actuators (e.g., air springs). The terminal end portions can be readily clamped together to make appropriate connections, or a terminal end portion can be clamped to a desired mounting surface.
