Abstract: In the present invention the torch movement period is 20-40 seconds, with the torch movement period being the time required to move plasma torches (which heat the surface of molten metal in the casting mold) one time. The average heat input amount at multiple sites, which are obtained by dividing the initial solidification portion (which is where the molten metal makes contact with the casting mold and first solidifies) into multiple sites in the circumferential direction of the casting mold, is 1.0-2.0 MW/m2. The molten metal advection time, which is the time required for electromagnetically stirred molten metal to travel the length of the torch heating region of the surface of the molten metal in the lengthwise direction of the casting mold, is 3.5 seconds or less.

Abstract: In a continuous casting apparatus 100 for casting a stainless steel billet 3c, a long nozzle 2 extending into a tundish 101 is provided at a ladle 1 for pouring a molten stainless steel 3 in the ladle 1 into the tundish 101. Further, a nitrogen gas 4 is supplied as a seal gas around the molten stainless steel 3 in the tundish 101, and continuous casting of the stainless steel billet 3c is performed, in which, while immersing the spout 2a of the long nozzle 2 into the molten stainless steel 3 in the tundish 101, the molten stainless steel 3 is poured through the long nozzle 2 into the tundish 101 and the molten stainless steel 3 in the tundish 101 is poured into a casting mold 105.

Abstract: Provided are alloy flakes for rare earth sintered magnet, which achieve a high rare earth component yield after pulverization with respect to before pulverization and a uniform particle size after pulverization, and a method for producing such alloy at high energy efficiency in an industrial scale. The method includes (A) preparing an alloy melt containing R composed of at least one element selected from rare earth metal elements including Y, B, and the balance M composed of Fe, or of Fe and at least one element selected from transition metal elements other than Fe, Si, and C, (B) rapidly cooling/solidifying the alloy melt to not lower than 700° C. and not higher than 1000° C. by strip casting with a cooling roll, and (C) heating and maintaining, in a particular temperature range, alloy flakes separated from the roll by rapid cooling and solidifying in step (B) before the flakes are cooled to not higher than 500° C., to obtain alloy flakes having a composition of 27.0 to 33.0 mass % R, 0.90 to 1.30 mass % boron, and the balance M.

Abstract: A sintered Nd—Fe—B magnet comprising at least one light rare earth element having a weight content between 31 wt. % and 35 wt. %, at least one heavy rare earth element having a weight content of no more than 0.2 wt. %, B having a weight content between 0.95 wt. % and 1.2 wt. %, at least one additive including Ti and having a weight content between 1.31 wt. % and 7.2 wt. %, Fe as a balance, and impurities including C, O, and N. Ti has a weight content between 0.3 wt. % and 1 wt. % and forms a Titanium-Iron-Boron phase with Fe and Boron B and being present in the sintered Nd—Fe—B magnet between 0.86 vol. % and 2.85 vol. %. The C, O, and N satisfy 630 ppm≦1.2C+0.6O+N≦3680 ppm. The sintered Nd—Fe—B magnet has a squareness factor of at least 0.95.
