    Abstract: An endcap includes a first plate member having a radial inner portion, a radial outer portion, and defining a longitudinal axis. The endcap also includes a flange disposed between the radial inner and outer portions, and projecting axially along the longitudinal axis in a first direction. The endcap also includes a first seal member disposed adjacent the flange. The first seal member includes a first portion engaged with an axial facing surface of the first plate member and a second portion engaged with a radially facing surface of the flange. The endcap further includes a second plate member disposed radially outward of the radial outer portion and a second seal member disposed adjacent the second plate member including at least a portion axially spaced from the axially facing surface of the first plate member in a second direction along the longitudinal axis opposite the first direction.

    Abstract: An oil filter assembly is disclosed for a machine, such as an internal combustion engine, that has an oil output port and an oil input port. A mounting plate is fixed with an outer enclosure and is adapted for securing to the machine. The mounting plate is further adapted to conduct oil from the machine into a peripheral portion of the outer enclosure, and then returning oil from a central portion of the outer enclosure back to the machine. Oil may pass from the peripheral portion to the central portion through a primary filter having a first porosity. A pressure-actuated valve is fixed fluidly between the peripheral portion and central portion of the outer enclosure. Oil may pass through the pressure-actuated valve only when an oil pressure differential between the peripheral portion and the central portion of the outer enclosure exceeds a predetermined threshold pressure. A secondary filter has a second porosity greater than the first porosity, and is fixed fluidly between the pressure-actuated valve and the central portion of the outer enclosure.

    Abstract: A filtering apparatus includes a pot-type filter housing (10), a filter element (28) accommodated in the housing, a holding mechanism (38) disposed in the filter housing (10) to removably fix the filter element along its longitudinal axis, and a sealing device (60) that seals between a lid (20) of the filter housing (10) and the filter element (28). The holding mechanism (38) is provided with cooperating holding elements embodied on the interior face of the filter housing (10) as well as on the filter element (28). The filtering apparatus dispenses with the need for O-seals that are known in prior art and extend in a radial direction between the filter element and the filter head as a housing lid because the sealing device (60) encompasses at least one sealing edge (62) or sealing surface placed parallel to the longitudinal axis in a radial direction and seals under the effect of the pressure applied it by the holding mechanism (38). The invention further relates to a filter element that is to be used in such filtering apparatus.

    Abstract: A filter assembly comprises a filter (10) defining path for fluid passing to or from the filter (10). An adaptor (11) is connected to the filter (10) and provides a continuation of the path. The adaptor (11) is for mounting the filter (10) on a mounting plate (12) and carries one or more sealing rings (30, 37) that are engageable with the mounting plate (12). The adaptor (11) is made from a plastics material and one surface of the adaptor (11) is reinforced by contact with an annular reinforcing member (31) which may be of metal, particularly steel. This allows the flow path provided by the adaptor (11) to be maximized.

    Abstract: A fluid filter arrangement includes a housing defining a slot arrangement. A filter cartridge is oriented within the housing. A projection arrangement engages the slot arrangement in the housing and spaces the filter cartridge from a wall of the housing to define a fluid flow path between the cartridge and the housing wall. A filter cartridge includes a tubular construction of filter media and a projection arrangement. A filter assembly includes the filter arrangement connected to a filter head. Preferably, the filter cartridge and filter head are made of plastic. Methods of assembling a filter includes inserting a filter cartridge and projection arrangement into an open end of a housing, engaging projections against through-slots defined by the housing to secure the filter cartridge in the housing. In some arrangements, a filter housing includes a plastic wall having an interior side with a support structure in the form of ribs extending from the interior side of the housing. In some arrangements, the plastic filter head is modular and may include male threads molded as part of the filter head.

    Abstract: An environmentally friendly acid neutralizing filter cartridge for mounting into a chamber of a cartridge mounting body for neutralizing acid in engine oil in an oil circulation circuit of an engine. The environmentally friendly acid neutralizing filter cartridge comprises a support housing comprising substantially no metal parts such that the environmentally friendly acid neutralizing filter cartridge can be readily incinerated. The support housing comprises at least one inlet port and at least one outlet port. A bed of acid neutralizing particles is contained in the support housing between the inlet port and the outlet port. Means is provided for preventing acid neutralizing particles from flowing through the at least one outlet port. An annular seal is arranged externally on the support housing and separates the at least one inlet port and the at least one outlet port to prevent oil from short circuiting the bed of acid neutralizing particles.
