A converter dolly is disclosed for use with a tandem trailer arrangement. In accordance with an important aspect of the invention, the converter dolly is multi-functional and is user configurable. In particular, the converter dolly in accordance with the present invention includes an adjustable saddle can be adjusted to fit any conventional trailer. The saddle is carried by a wheeled cart, which includes a fifth wheel assembly for coupling to a tandem trailer. The saddle is configured to seat a tandem trailer. The height of the saddle relative to the underside of the tandem trailer is user configurable. In an extended position, the tandem trailer is seated in the saddle which prevents rotation of the tandem trailer with respect to the converter dolly thus eliminating one of the three pivot points in a conventional tandem trailer arrangement. In order to provide steering for the tandem trailer, the wheels on the wheeled cart are carried by self steering axles.

The pilot port fluidly communicates with a control/warning device such that, when a secondary ride height is reached by the vehicle, the pilot port signals the control/warning device in order to maintain the vehicle at the secondary ride height. The pilot port alternatively provides an air pressure boost in order to quickly re-inflate the air springs of the vehicle to return the vehicle to the primary design ride height.

A rollover warning and detection method for a transport vehicle is adaptively adjustable to take into account the CG height of the vehicle. Measures of the vehicle speed, lateral acceleration and yaw rate are sampled during normal driving conditions and used to estimate the CG height of the vehicle. The centrifugal acceleration acting on the vehicle is calculated as the product of vehicle speed and yaw rate, and the CG height is estimated based on the relationship between the calculated centrifugal acceleration and the measured lateral acceleration. The estimated CG height of the vehicle is used to adjust various calibrated rollover detection thresholds so that algorithm outputs such as rollover warnings automatically take into consideration vehicle loading effects.

A slider assembly provides a connection between a vehicle body and a vehicle suspension. The slider assembly includes a frame and a locking mechanism attached to the frame. The locking mechanism s a locking pin that is connected to an extension spring, a pivot arm that is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, and a compression spring that is connecting the pivot arm and the locking pin. When the pivot arm is in the locked position, the compression spring does not exert a bias on the locking pin and the extension spring exerts a bias on the locking pin so as to bias the locking pin into engagement with the vehicle body so as to secure together the vehicle body and the vehicle suspension. When the pivot arm is in the unlocked position, the compression spring exerts a bias on the locking pin that overcomes the bias of the extension spring on the locking pin thereby biasing the locking pin out of engagement with the vehicle body so that the vehicle body is slidable with respect to the vehicle suspension.
