Abstract:
A steel cord is disclosed for use in reinforcing rubber products, especially automobile tires. In order to provide desirable rubber penetrability and break-resistance, three to six material wires are intertwisted into a steel cord having an elliptically shaped cross section having a ratio of its major diameter to its minor diameter of between 1.1 and 2.2. The cord is formed such that its material wires substantially contact each other near the ends of the major axis of the ellipse and are separated from each other near the end of the minor axis. The cord of the invention is normally formed such that a ratio the twist pitch to the material wire diameter is in the range of 30-80. However, if a high elongation of more than 5% is necessary, such can be imparted by intertwisting material wires such that the ratio of the twist pitch to the material wire diameter is in the range of 10-28.
Abstract:
A metal cord is constructed by twisting three metal filaments in the same direction, and satisfies Lmax.gtoreq.1.05d, Lmin.gtoreq.1d and Lmax/Lmin.gtoreq.1.05 (Lmax : center distance between longest separated metal filaments, Lmin : center distance between shortest separated metal filaments, d : diameter of metal filament), and has specified twisting pitch and elongation under a load of 5 kg/cord. A pneumatic tire comprises a belt composed of plural belt layers each containing the above metal cords arranged at a given inclination angle with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire.
Abstract:
A reinforcing cord for use in radial tires, conveyor belts, hoses or driving belts, includes at least one strand of metal wires twisted along the longitudinal axis of the strand. Each metal wire has a substantially rectangular cross-section defining two opposite broad sides. The wires in the strand engage one another along their broad sides and preferably are wrapped around by a wrapping wire.
Abstract:
A composite material of rubber and metal cords embedded therein is disclosed. The metal cord is produced by twisting at least three metal filaments, and has an elongation under a load of 5.0 kg/cord (P.sub.1) of 0.2-1.2% and an elongation under a load of 2.0 kg/cord (P.sub.2, %) of P.sub.2 .ltoreq.0.947P.sub.1 -0.043 prior to the embedding in rubber.
Abstract:
Metal cord, for reinforcing articles of an elastomeric material, such as tires, conveyor belts and so on of the single strand type, in particular made up of a plurality of 3, 4 or 5 wires, wherein the said wires are twisted together loosely, so as to result as being spaced apart from each other but in such a way that the ratio between the diameter of the circumference circumscribing the swollen cord and the diameter of the circumference circumscribing the corresponding compact cord, is comprised between 1.06 and 1.20. A thus realized cord consents for an optimum penetration of the elastomeric filler material but at the same time a tensile behavior, and in particular an elongation in the field of low values of loads applied, which does not differ in any appreciable way from that of the corresponding compact cord.
Abstract:
A torque coil (two-layer coil structure) of the disclosed embodiments includes an inner coil formed by spirally winding metal wire, and an outer coil arranged to be in close contact with the outer periphery of the inner coil and formed by spirally winding metal wire. A winding direction of the inner coil and a winding direction of the outer coil are opposite from each other, and when the torque coil is twisted in the circumferential direction in which the diameter of the inner coil is increased, a change amount of the diameter of the outer coil is larger than a change amount of the diameter of the inner coil. The two-layer coil structure has high twisting rigidity, thus suppressing the occurrence of kinks due to rotational resistance.
Abstract:
The invention relates to cord (20) comprising a number of filaments twisted together. The peripheral surface of the cord (20) is at least partially coated with an adhesion promoting coating (24). The adhesion promoting coating (24) comprises at least a first layer comprising a silicon based coating, a titanium based coating, a zirconium based coating or a combination thereof. The invention further relates to a composite material comprising such a cord (20) embedded in a polymer material. Furthermore the invention relates to a method to manufacture such a cord (20).

The belt structure has UT steel reinforcing cords. The cords have filaments with diameters ranging from 0.18 mm to 0.30 mm.
Abstract:
