Abstract:
A system for printing a second document by interacting with a first document. The system includes: a first document having visible textual information and first coded data; a handheld optically imaging sensor which generates indicating data indicative of the position of the sensor relative to the first document using sensed coded data; and a printer for printing the second document in response to interpretation of the indicating data by a computer system. The second printed document includes visible textual information and second coded data in the form of a plurality of tags, each tag defining unique coded data identifying the second document and a position of that tag on the second document.

The present invention relates generally to steganography and data hiding. One claim recites an object including: electronic processing circuitry having an operating or performance metric associated therewith; and steganographic indicia carried by the object, the steganographic indicia is usable as an index to verify the operating or performance metric. Another claim recites an apparatus including: electronic memory; and machine-readable indicia usable as a registry index including data that provides an indication regarding an expected capacity of the electronic memory. Other combinations are described and claimed as well.
Abstract:
A digital watermark detecting device includes an extracting unit to extract pixels embedded as a digital watermark from an input image and to output an extracted pixel value row, a generating unit to generate a set of orthogonal patterns, a detecting unit to calculate a correlation using an integration result of the orthogonal patterns and the extracted pixel value row, to determine detected values corresponding to the orthogonal patterns and a standard deviation for detected values excluding a maximum detected value with a maximum absolute value from the calculated detected values, to calculate a quotient by dividing the maximum detected value by the standard deviation, a discriminating unit to output information corresponding to the result of comparison between a threshold parameter and the quotient, and a unit to convert the detected value inputted from the detecting unit into predetermined information, when the reliability of the detected values satisfies a standard.
Abstract:
A method and system generates fine-grained fingerprints for identifying content in a rendered document. It includes applying image-based techniques to identify patterns in a document rendered by an electronic document rendering system, irrespective of a file format in which the rendered document was electronically created. The applying of the image-based technique includes identifying candidate keypoints at locations in a local image neighborhood of the document, and combining the locations of the candidate keypoints to form a fine-grained fingerprint identifying patterns representing content in the document.
Abstract:
An interactive document retrieval device having a processor and a print engine is disclosed. The processor receives first indicating data identifying a page identity and one or more locations on a first interactive document. The first interactive document has a page description stored in a server. The page identity contained in the first indicating data is used to determine a network address of the server storing the page description of the first interactive document. Data based upon the first indicating data is sent to the network address identified using the page identity in order to retrieve a page description of a second interactive document. The second interactive document is then printed by the print engine.
Abstract:
The presently claimed invention relates generally to steganographic encoding and digital watermarking. One claim recites a method including identifying at least one change to a digital signal that will be affected by a filter; and encoding at least one digital watermark so the digital watermark survives the changes introduced by the filter. The “digital signal” may represent audio or video. Another claim recites a system including a processor and an encoder. The processor identifies an area or portion of a digital signal that will be affected by a digital filter. The encoder encodes the at least one digital watermark in the digital signal, the encoder encoding the at least one digital watermark so as to avoid the at least one area or portion of the digital signal that is identified by said processor. Of course, other combinations are provided and claimed as well.
Abstract:
A computer system for generating print data for an interactive document. The computer being is configured for: receiving a print request from a user; formatting user information in an electronic document so as to include a first user interactive element; determining advertising material for printing with the user information; formatting the advertising material so as to include a second user interactive element; and generating print data for printing the formatted user information and the formatted advertising material together with coincident coded data on a substrate. The coded data is readable by a sensing device and is indicative of a document identity and the first and second interactive elements.
Abstract:
An internet linking method includes providing plural-bit sampled values representing media content at a user's computer. This digital data is passed to a processing system, and an identifier of the media content derived from the sampled values is returned from that system. This derived identifier is used to index a database, from which a corresponding URL address is obtained. A link can then be established to that URL address, and information obtained from that address can be presented to the user. A steganographic decoding technique can be used in the processing system to derive the media content identifier. A variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to solve dissatisfaction of the user who can not take out the source data in a case where a code image in the original can not be decoded. In order to accomplish the above object, the invention provides an image processing apparatus comprising code image detection unit that determines whether or not an code image is included in the original image data, code image decoding unit that decodes the code image to extract source data if it is determined that the code image is included by the code image detection unit, and synthesizing unit that encodes information obtained by decoding a partial area of the code image and overlaying encoded information on the area where the code image is included, if the code image decoding unit is successful in decoding only the partial area of the code image.
Abstract:
System and methodologies are provided herein for low-distortion image watermarking. Parity relationships between multiple pixels and/or regions of an image can be leveraged as described herein to reduce the amount of toggling required to embed a watermark in an image, thereby increasing watermark efficiency and reducing visual artifacts introduced in a watermarked image. Various algorithms for leveraging parity relationships are described herein, including a Block-Overlapping Parity Check (BOPC) algorithm, a Champagne Pyramid Parity Check (CPPC) algorithm, and a Tree-Based Parity Check (TBPC) algorithm.
