A lubricating oil additive composition which imparts improved oxidation properties to crankcase lubricants comprises an antioxidant selected from aromatic or alkyl sulfides and polysulfides, sulfurized olefins, sulfurized carboxylic acid esters and sulfurized ester-olefins, and a tertiary amine of the formula (R).sub.3 N wherein each R is independently C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 alkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by 1 or 2 alkyl groups of up to 12 carbon atoms. Disclosed are compositions comprising a major proportion of a natural or synthetic lubricating oil and a minor proportion of an oil-soluble wear-inhibiting additive composition, said wear-inhibiting additive composition being added in wear-inhibiting amounts and comprising benzotriazole or C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl substituted benzotriazole and a material selected from the group consisting of at least one half-acid half-ester, half-acid half-amide, and half-acid half-thioester of succinic or maleic acid or acid anhydride and an alcohol, amine, and mercaptan, respectively, a metal salt of at least one said half-ester, half-amide, or half-thioester, and mixtures thereof, wherein the alcohol and mercaptan comprise acyclic aliphatic compounds containing from 7 to 50 carbon atoms, wherein the amine comprises a straight-chain primary or secondary amine having from 7 to 50 carbon atoms and is selected from the group consisting of monoamines and polyamines having at least 2 carbon atoms separating each pair of nitrogen atoms, and wherein said metal salt comprises a Group IIA, Group IIB, tin or lead metal salt or mixtures thereof.

Provided is a lubricating oil composition and method of using such a composition that provides for improved high temperature deposit resistance. The composition includes a lubricating oil base stock at from 20 to 95 wt % of the composition, at least one ashless organic friction modifier at from 0.1 to 20 wt % of the composition, and at least one overbased detergent at from 0.1 to 20 wt % of the composition. The remainder of composition includes one or more other lubricating oil additives. The deposit resistance of the lubricating oil composition as measured by TEOST 33C total deposits is at least 20% lower than the deposit resistance for a comparable lubricating oil composition not including the combination of the at least one ashless organic friction modifier and the at least one overbased detergent.

Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition for low-friction sliding materials, which is used in a sliding mechanism where a DLC film containing hydrogen in an amount of from 5 atom % to 50 atom % is formed on at least one sliding surface. The lubricating oil composition contains, in the lubricant base oil therein and based on the total amount of the composition, (A) an organic zinc dithiophosphate in an amount of from 0.005% by mass to 0.12% by mass in terms of the phosphorus concentration therein, (B) an amine-based friction-reducing agent in an amount of from 0.05% by mass to 5.0% by mass, and (C) an alkaline earth metal salicylate-based detergent and/or an alkaline earth metal sulfonate-based detergent in an amount of from 0.05% by mass to 0.5% by mass in terms of the alkaline earth metal concentration therein, wherein the component (A) contains, based on the total amount of the composition, a zinc primary dialkyldithiophosphate in an amount of from 0.005% by mass to 0.05% by mass in terms of the phosphorus concentration therein.

The lubricating oil composition includes a base oil; a) a metal-containing phosphorus antiwear compound in an amount sufficient to provide from about 100 to about 1000 ppm by weight phosphorus based on a total weight of the lubricant composition, and b) a heat bodied vegetable oil, different from the base oil. The base oil is present in the lubricant composition in an amount from about 50 wt. % to about 99 wt. % based on the total weight of the lubricant composition.
