A lubricating grease consisting of a mixture containing from 15% to 40% by weight of polytetrafluoroethylene, from 60% to 85% by weight of a liquid dispersing medium of the type of perfluoropolyether or oligomer of C.sub.2 ClF.sub.3, less than 1% by weight of a perfluoroalkyl or polyoxyperfluoroalkyl surfactant and, optionally, stabilizing and anticorrosive agents of the class of polyoxyperfluoroderivatives, said mixture being subjected to grinding in order to obtain the disaggregation of the polytetrafluoroethylene granules into primary particles not larger than 1 micron.

Disclosed are a process for manufacturing metal diaryl dithiophosphates, certain metal diaryl dithiophosphates, and lubricating oil compositions containing said metal diaryl dithiophosphates. The process for the manufacture of metal diaryl dithiophosphate generally comprises reacting P.sub.2 S.sub.5 with a hydroxyl aryl compound to form a dithiophosphoric acid; and neutralizing said dithiophosphoric acid with zinc, barium, cadmium, magnesium or nickel base in the presence of an effective amount of a promoter, said promoter comprising dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid. Metal diaryl dithiophosphates, especially for use in lubricating oil compositions, can be made by the above process.

Disclosed are lubricating oil compositions having improved anti-wear properties, comprising a major portion of a lubricating oil and an effective amount of an oil soluble additive combination comprising a basic zinc alkyl dithiophosphate having alkyl groups made from primary alcohols containing from about 6 to about 20 carbon atoms and a non-acidic lubricating oil anti-rust compound comprising a succinic anhydride substituted with an alkenyl group which has about 8 to about 50 carbon atoms reacted with an alcohol, an amine, or mixtures thereof.The zinc dithiophosphate is generally made from primary alcohol containing about 7 to about 12 carbon atoms and generally has a zinc to phosphorous ratio of about 1.15-1.5:1.

The basic metal salt compositions are useful in the preparation of lubricants.

A lubricant comprises 0À02 to 35 weight per cent of a mixture of 5 to 60% of an alkyl or alkenyl phosphite and 95 to 40% of a compound selected from sulphurized polyisobutylene, sulphurized triisobutylene, and sulphurized dipentene. Suitable phosphites are dibutyl-, ethyl hexyl-, oleyl acid-, tributyl-, tris-2-chloroethyl-, mono- and di-oleyl-, and mono- and didodecyl-, phosphites. The base lubricants are oils having viscosities of 40-6000 S.S.U. at 100‹ F., viscosity indexes of 0 to 100, and average molecular weights of 250-800, e.g. mineral oils of S.A.E. grade 5-140, aliphatic phosphates, esters and diesters, silicates, siloxanes, polyoxalkyl ethers, and polyesters and greases made from any of the above oils or from oils such as polypropylene, polypropylene glycol, trimethylol propane esters, neopentyl and pentaerythritol esters, di-(ethyl hexyl) sebacate, di- (2-ethyl hexyl) adipate, dibutyl phthalate, fluorocarbons, silicate esters, silanes, esters of phosphorus-containing acids, liquid ureas, ferrocene derivatives, hydrogenated mineral oils, chain-type polyphenyls, siloxanes and silicones, alkyl-substituted diphenyl ethers and phenoxy phenyl ethers, and thickened with metal salts or soaps, surface modified clays and silicas, aryl ureas and calcium complexes.
