The sensing coil, electrostatic shield coil, core, housing, and magnetic shield can be of toroidal symmetry and arranged coaxially about a pair of primary current conductors. The conductors can be either asymmetric or symmetric with respect to the geometric center of the remaining sensor assembly. The core and a secondary winding make up a current sensor. The core is cylindrically shaped and fabricated of non-magnetic material. The secondary winding is wound over the cylindrical core to form a toroidally shaped winding. When assembled into the current sensor assembly, the core and windings are disposed around two single turn primary windings through which AC currents to be measured flow. Alternatively, the conductor can be flat and the sensor can be a solid state sensor that includes an electrostatic shield. The conductor can have a magnetic flux concentrator positioned about the conductor in the same region where the sensor is located.

The power distribution system includes a plurality of circuit breakers, a plurality of node electronic units, and wherein each associated circuit breaker is electrically coupled with each respective node electronic unit. The system also includes at least one digital network, and at least one central control processing unit (CCPU) wherein each CCPU includes a first power system global information set, and each CCPU is communicatively coupled to the plurality of node electronic units. The method includes transmitting at least one digital message from each node electronic unit to each CCPU over a respective network, determining an operational state of the power distribution system from the digital message, and transmitting at least one multicast message from each CCPU to each node electronic unit such that the circuit breakers are operable from each CCPU.

A magnetic field sensor is provided with a device for producing an output signal that is a function of a magnetic field to be sensed. A calibration coil is arranged so as to change the magnetic field when energized, and a switch for selectively energizing the calibration coil is included. Calibration of the magnetic field sensor is accomplished by operating the switch to cause a known current to flow through the calibration coil, measuring the resultant change in the magnetic field, and calculating a sensitivity for the magnetic field sensor from the measured change in the magnetic field and the known current.

A current sensor arrangement for measuring electrical current flow (subject flow) includes an elongated conductor for carrying the subject flow through a region. A magnetic field sensing device is located in the region, and produces a sensed voltage representative of the magnitude of the magnetic field in the region. A test generator generates a magnetic field component having “known” magnitude in the spatial region. The test generator is gated, so that the magnetic field changes when the test generator is ON. If the test generator generates its magnetic field by passing a test current through the spatial region, the change in the magnetic field, which is expressed in the sensed voltage, is related to the test current. Simple control circuit processing determines the subject current from the sensed magnetic field and the known magnitude of the test current.

The first radiation beam is directed through and above the cooktop surface. A reflective surface positioned above the cooktop surface reflects the first radiation beam. A radiation sensor detects the reflected first radiation beam and generates a sensor output. A reference radiation sensor receives the second radiation beam from the beam splitter and generates a reference output. A processor is connected to the radiation sensor and the reference radiation sensor and receives the sensor output and the reference output. Changes in water vapor above the cooktop surface are determined by analyzing the sensor output and the reference output.

A magnetic sensor, made-up of inductive coils or solid state sensors, is positioned to be electromagnetically coupled to the magnetic source for supplying an output signal that varies in a predetermined manner as the agitator is angularly accelerated relative to the magnetic sensor. A signal processor is coupled to the magnetic sensor for receiving the output signal supplied by the magnetic sensor. The processor is designed and/or programmed for measuring loads in the washer basket based on the output signal received from the magnetic sensor while the agitator is angularly accelerated relative to the magnetic sensor upon initiating the dry spin cycle.

The washing machine further includes a motor for rotating the basket and the agitator about a spin axis, and a suspension system for supporting the washer basket so that the washer basket travels along a travel axis based on the load in the washer basket. The system includes a magnetic source attached to a lateral section of the washer basket for producing a magnetic field. A sensor is attached to a predetermined lateral wall of the cabinet. The sensor is made up of first and second magnetic sensing elements situated to have a predetermined spacing between one another substantially along the travel axis. The first and second magnetic sensing elements are electromagnetically coupled to the magnetic source for supplying, respectively, first and second output signals as the washer basket rotates relative to the magnetic sensor. The system further includes a signal processor coupled to the magnetic sensor for receiving the first and second output signals supplied by the sensor. The signal processor is programmed for measuring load in the washer basket based on the first and second output signals received from the magnetic sensor.
