A continuous process for preparing a pressure sensitive adhesive using a planetary roller extruder is described. The continuous process includes introducing at least one non-thermoplastic elastomer into a planetary roller extruder and initially compounding the non-thermoplastic elastomer in the planetary roller extruder to form an initially masticated non-thermoplastic elastomer. Then, a solid raw material, a liquid material, or both are introduced into the initially masticated non-thermoplastic elastomer in the planetary roller extruder, and subsequent compounding of the initially masticated non-thermoplastic elastomer with these additional components occurs to form an adhesive composition.

A rod bed assembly (1, 11, 111) has a holder (2) made of a composite material according to a continuous primary molding method, a rod bed (3) made of a polymer according to a continuous primary molding method, and a doctor rod (4) rotatably supported in a bearing recess (34) on the front side of the rod bed. The holder (2) is formed such that the rod bed (3) and the doctor rod (4) are insertable into and removable from a socket provided in the holder in the radial direction of the doctor rod (4). The rod bed (3) has closed cavities for saving material.

A coating bar 1 in a coating apparatus includes grooves 2 that are formed, on the surface of a cylindrical shaft, from a contact point between the coating bar 1 and a substrate 3 in a traveling direction and a direction opposite to the traveling direction, and are arranged in the width direction of the shaft. Thus, a uniform film can be stably applied to the curved or wavy substrate 3 having high rigidity.

The present invention relates to a doctor device for metering and/or leveling a liquid to pasty medium applied to a moving surface, the surface in the case of direct application being a paper, board or other fibrous web and in the case of indirect application being the surface of a transfer element which transfers the medium to the fibrous web. The doctor device includes a cylindrical metering rod and a pressure tube, with which the metering rod can be pressed against the moving surface for the purpose of metering and/or leveling the medium applied. Additionally, the doctor device is of modular design, having a top part and a bottom part, the top part being provided with a first holder for holding the pressure tube, and the bottom part being provided with a second holder for holding a clamping tube.

The holder being elongated and mountable to a frame and comprising an insert groove in the longitudinal direction, adapted to receive an insert, and an engagement formation in the longitudinal direction along the insert groove. The insert being elongated and comprising a rod groove in the longitudinal direction, being adapted to rotatably support a coating rod having a circular cross section and being designed to surround the coating rod over more than 180° of its circumference, and an engagement formation in the longitudinal direction along the rod groove. The engagement formations of the holder and the insert are designed to interact with a locking member to allow interconnection between the insert and the holder of the metering device.

There is provided a coating method for forming a coat having a less unevenness in its thickness on a sheet-like substrate. In the method in which a coating liquid is continuously supplied from a supply head to a surface of a continuously traveling sheet-like substrate to form a coat while controlling its thickness by a coating bar disposed above the sheet-like substrate, the coating liquid of which amount corresponds to an amount required for forming a predetermined coat thickness is continuously and constantly supplied to the surface of the sheet-like substrate, and the coating bar is moved up and down on the basis of increase and decrease in an amount of a holdup of the coating liquid which is formed just near the coating bar, so that the coat is formed.

A first coating rod placed on an upper-surface side of a resin film is pressed onto the resin film in a state where the first coating rod is circumscribed and supported by support members each comprising a pair of rollers and spaced with intervals therebetween in a length direction of the first coating rod so that the first coating rod is rotated in a forward direction at a speed substantially equal to that of the resin film, and a lower surface of the resin film is supported by a guide roll or a second coating rod placed on a downstream side of the first coating rod and an upstream side of a tenter so that the coating liquid continuously measured and supplied to an upper surface of the resin film is smoothened by the first coating rod.
