Abstract:
A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding data is described. The present invention includes a method and apparatus for generating transformed signals in response to input data. In one embodiment, the transformed signals are generated using a reversible wavelet transform. The present invention also includes a method and apparatus for compressing the transformed signals into data representing a losslessly compressed version of the input data. In one embodiment, the present invention decomposes the input data using a non-minimal length reversible filter. The decomposition may be performed using multiple one-dimension filters.
Abstract:
A photographic and data communication system includes a camera used with a magnetic communication system in which information is stored on a magnetic medium external to the camera. The camera includes means for capturing an image, a magnetic read section for reading a magnetic signal from the magnetic medium, and a recording section for storing the magnetic signal in association with the image. More specifically, the camera is capable of receiving digital data through a magnetic recording head and saving received data along with the captured image. In case of a digital camera this extra information is stored in solid state memory on the camera. In case of a camera utilizing a film with magnetic tracks or regions, the received data is stored on the magnetic portion of the film. In case of a camera using regular film, the received information is stored on the camera in solid state memory to be downloaded later on. The invention is described in a tradeshow environment, although its use is not limited to such settings.

A system for digital image capture and transmission, includes a digital camera that has an electronic image sensor for sensing an image and producing a digital image; a memory for storing digital images produced by the image sensor in digital image files, the digital image files having associated information for controlling a remote image fulfillment server; a voice recorder for digitizing voice commands relating to control of the image fulfillment server; and a transmitter for transmitting the digital image file to the image fulfillment server. Either the camera or the fulfillment server includes a voice recognition module responsive to the digitized voice commands for producing control signals for the image fulfillment server. The image fulfillment server includes a receiver for receiving the digital image file and control signals; a memory for storing the received digital image file; and a file manager for managing the digital image file in response to the control signals.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for increasing the throughput of a data processing system such as an acoustic or image compression system. An addition or subtraction of two pluralities of numbers is accomplished in parallel by combining numbers into a pair of "doublevectors," adding or subtracting the pair of doublevectors, and separating the resultant doublevector to provide values representative of the results of the addition or subtraction on the original plurality of numbers. Similarly, a left-shift of a plurality of numbers is accomplished by combining the numbers into a single doublevector, left-shifting the doublevector, and extracting a plurality of output values representative of the left-shifted values of the original numbers. Using additions, subtractions and shifts a linear transform such as the Generalized Chen Transform may be performed using doublevectors to provide a substantial increase in computation speed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an encoding and decoding apparatus used for the compression and expansion of data. A state machine is provided having a plurality of states. Each state has at least one transition pair. Each element of the transition pair comprises zero or more bits representative of the compact code to be output and the identification of the next state to proceed to. The transition pair reflects an output for a yes and no response associated with the probability of the data to be compacted and whether the data falls within that probability.
Abstract:
A reproduction apparatus includes a communication interface having an RS-232 interface and a modem, thereby permitting both on-site and remote communication with a diagnostic and administrative device. The RS-232 interface and modem enable the use of standard hardware and non-dedicated telephone lines for the purpose of recording apparatus usage, feature utilization, and performing diagnostic routines on the reproduction apparatus.
Abstract:
An improved method for converting between two color spaces such as the RGB and YIQ color on a 32 bit microprocessor. The present invention only requires in total number of operations three table look-ups, two adds, two barrel shifts and two masking operations. In terms of speed it is believed that the present invention is optimal for microprocessors such as 32 bit microprocessors.
Abstract:
Transforms such as the DCT are useful for image compression. One close relative of the DCT is preferred for its arithmetic simplicity. A method is described whereby the image compression is done with no multiplications. Other enhancements are made to improve image quality.
Abstract:
A line sensor with photosites accurately located for color scanning. The sensor includes a plurality of photosites arranged in a two-dimensional, staggered pattern which is repeated across the length of the sensor. Only one photosite is located for every direction perpendicular to the axis of the line image. Individual color filters extend over all the photosites located at the same perpendicular distance from the line image axis. In one embodiment, the filters are disposed on separate transparent members which are aligned and assembled over the photosites.
Abstract:
Apparatus and process for producing multi-sheet, collated copy sets of a multi-original document with apparatus for monitoring the copy sets for confirming that each copy set contains all of the sheets, and has no grossly skewed, or unwanted duplicate or blank sheets. First electrical information signals characteristic of the images on the originals and second electrical information signals characteristic of the images on the copy set sheets are compared to produce an error signal representative of differences therebetween. A malfunction of the copier/printer is indicated in response to error signals of at least a predetermined magnitude.
