Abstract: An apparatus for detecting deformation of an elongate body may comprise a light source configured to sequentially provide light of multiple frequencies, an optical receiver configured to receive light from the light source, and a filter disposed between the light source and the optical detector. The filter may comprise multiple segments, each of the segments configured to filter light at one of the frequencies so as to alter the amount of light incident on said optical receiver. A total amount of light detected by the optical receiver may change during the sequence so as to be indicative of deformation of the elongate body.

Abstract: A method for projecting a 3D surface geometry onto a planar projection comprises: obtaining a 3D geometry of a chamber surface using an algorithm that generates angles and distances between points on the chamber surface that represent mapping information; applying a cutting curve to at least two points on the chamber surface; and at least partially unfolding at least a portion of the chamber surface along the cutting curve to form a planar projection that optimally preserves the angles and distances between points on the chamber surface.

Abstract: A system for controlling delivery of ablation energy by an ablation catheter to tissue in a body is provided. The system includes an electronic control unit configured to determine, responsive to a measurement signal from the ablation catheter, a value for a characteristic associated with the delivery of ablation energy to the tissue. In one embodiment, the characteristic is the degree of contact between the ablation catheter and the tissue. The unit is further configured to generate a control signal, responsive to the determined value of the characteristic, to control an amount of energy delivered from an ablation delivery element on the ablation catheter to the tissue. The amount of energy varies in response to the determined value of the characteristic when the determined value of the characteristic meets a predetermined condition relative to a threshold value for the characteristic.

Abstract: A catheter includes a braid assembly having a dual-laminate coating. The braid assembly includes a plurality of braid members interwoven to provide for interstices between the braid members, each braid member having an electrically conductive element, a flexible non-electrically-conductive polymer coating that insulates the electrically conductive element and a thermoplastic bonding adhesive coating. The braid assembly is formed between an inner polymer layer and an outer polymer layer. One or more of the braid members may be coupled to an energy delivery element.

Abstract: A system and method for tracking catheter electrode locations with the body of a patient during an MRI scan sequence includes mitigation logic configured to identify one or more impedance measurements that were taken during potentially noise-inducing conditions (i.e., magnet gradients, RF pulses), and were thus subject to corruption by noise. The mitigation logic is configured to replace the potentially corrupt impedance measurements with previously-obtained impedance measurements taken from an immediately preceding acquisition cycle (e.g., from a previous time-slice).

Abstract: A transseptal medical device is provided including a dilator, a needle, and a needle control mechanism. The needle may be disposed within the dilator, and the needle control mechanism may be operably connected to a proximal end of the needle or the dilator for selective adjustment of the distal end of the needle from a first position within the dilator to a second position external to the dilator. The needle control mechanism may include an actuator configured for rotation within the dilator in one embodiment. In another embodiment, the proximal end of the dilator may incorporate internal threads and the proximal end of the needle may incorporate external threads, such that the needle may be configured for rotation during selective adjustment of the distal end of the needle from a first position to a second position. A method for puncturing a septum of a heart is also disclosed.
