    Abstract: Prostate treatment using fluid stream to resect prostate tissue, thereby relieving symptoms of conditions such as BPH, prostatitis, and prostatic carcinoma. A device having a fluid delivery element is positioned within a lumen of the urethra within the prostate. A fluid stream is directed outwardly from the fluid delivery element toward a wall of the urethral lumen. The fluid delivery element is moved to scan the fluid stream over the wall to remove a volume of tissue surrounding the lumen. The fluid may be combined with therapeutically active substances or with substances that increase resection efficiency. Fluid force may be adjusted to provide selective tissue resection such that soft tissue is removed while harder tissue is left undamaged. In order to gain a working space within the urethra, another fluid may be introduced to insufflate the urethra in the region of treatment.

    Abstract: A device is described that can be used quickly and accurately by surgeons to provide uniform facial tissue planes that are tunnel-free and wall-free thus optimizing face lifting, tightening, and implant delivery. The device is comprised of a shaft with a substantially planar tip further comprised of relative protrusions and energized relative recession lysing segments. Forward motion of the device precisely divides and energizes various tissue planes causing contraction, especially via the fibrous tissues. Other forms of energy and matter can be delivered down the shaft to further enhance desirable tissue modification and contraction.

    Abstract: Exemplary method and apparatus can be provided for directing a substance and electromagnetic radiation to a particular location in a biological tissue, for example, to inject and cure a cosmetic filler in situ. The apparatus can include a needle configured to be inserted into the tissue, and a waveguide configured to direct the electromagnetic radiation, such as optical energy, to a location proximal to the needle tip. The substance can be injected into the tissue through the needle and irradiated by the optical energy. In addition, the exemplary method and apparatus can be provided for determining the location of the needle tip in a biological tissue based on characteristics of light directed through the waveguide and emitted proximal to the needle tip. For example, intensity of the emitted light can indicate whether the needle tip is located inside or outside of a blood vessel.

    Abstract: A laser assembly includes a laser and an articulated arm having a plurality of couplers arranged to receive a laser-beam from the laser. The assembly is mounted on a support structure, and is rotatable on the support structure in two axes perpendicular to each other. Six degrees of freedom of motion of the end of the articulated arm can be accomplished with one less coupler in the arm than would be necessary without rotation of the assembly on the support structure.
