摘要: The system includes electrolyzers to generate acidic and alkaline effluent streams from saltwater. The electrolyzer include stacked pairs of porous anodes and cathodes that define feed channels into which reactants, e.g., hydrogen and brine, can be pumped to undergo an oxidation-reduction reaction. The porous cathode carries out the HER to generate H2, which floats upwards to the porous anode, where it is oxidized through the HOR. The reaction can thus progress in a self-maintaining manner. The HER creates an alkaline product stream with increased basicity, and the HOR an acidic product stream with increased acidity, compared to the inlet stream. Streams are pumped through the porous electrodes and the electrolyzer to sweep effluent through separate channels before they can combine. The alkaline product stream can have an alkalinity sufficient to drive metal ion precipitation in raw saltwater prior to feeding to the electrolyzer to reduce fouling/degradation of electrolyzer electrodes.

摘要: A carbon dioxide gas-phase reduction apparatus includes: an oxidation tank including an oxidation electrode; a reduction tank which is adjacent to the oxidation tank and into which carbon dioxide is supplied when the inside of the reduction tank is empty; and a porous reduction electrode-supporting electrolyte membrane disposed between the oxidation tank and the reduction tank. The porous reduction electrode-supporting electrolyte membrane is a joint body obtained by joining a porous reduction electrode formed by dispersing a first electrolyte membrane inside voids and a second electrolyte membrane. The second electrolyte membrane is disposed on the oxidation tank side. The porous reduction electrode is disposed on the reduction tank side, connected to the oxidation electrode by a conducting wire, and performs a reduction reaction with the carbon dioxide in the reduction tank by electrons flowing through the conducting wire.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to a system for generating hydrogen (H2) from an aldehyde, where the system comprises an anode comprising a metal-based alloy catalyst, a cathode comprising Ni2P or Pt/C, and a separator positioned between the anode and the cathode. Also disclosed is a method of producing hydrogen (H2). This method involves providing a system described herein and adding an aldehyde to the system under conditions effective to produce hydrogen (H2) from electrocatalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of the aldehyde at the anode and water reduction at the cathode.

摘要: Methods, apparatuses, and systems related to the electrochemical separation of target gases from gas mixtures are provided. In some cases, a target gas such as carbon dioxide is captured and optionally released using an electrochemical cell (e.g., by bonding to an electroactive species in a reduced state). Some embodiments are particularly useful for selectively capturing the target gas while reacting with little to no oxygen gas that may be present in the gas mixture. Some such embodiments may be useful in applications involving separations from gas mixtures having relatively low concentrations of the target gas, such as direct air capture and ventilated air treatment.

摘要: An ink formulation and electrode that enhances hydrogen production, oxygen production, carbon dioxide reduction and other electrocatalytic reactions. Embodiments include an ink formulation with polymer binders having different catalytical precursors and a 3D electrode produced by additive manufacturing from the inventor's ink formulation. Various embodiments of the inventor's apparatus, systems, and methods provide inks that that are 3D-printed into patterns that optimize surface area and flow. The catalytic materials are imbedded into the ink matrix which is then printed into a 3D structure that has architecture that optimizes surface area and flow properties.
