    摘要: Described is novel apparatus for rendering a watercraft propulsion system universal. One embodiment of the invention comprises a rotary shaft; a propeller detachably attached to one end of the rotary shaft, the other end of the rotary shaft being configured for detachable and either direct or indirect connection to, and rotational relationship with, a drive shaft of the engine; a plate which is directly or indirectly pivotally attached to a stern portion of the watercraft and which, during normal operation, is disposed in a substantially horizontal plane above the propeller, the plane of the plate traversing the rotary shaft; and a hollow heat-conductive loop integral with or connected to the apparatus and connected to the cooling system for circulating a flow of the fluid from the cooling system through the loop and thence back to the cooling system, the loop being adapted to be disposed in thermally-conductive heat exchange contact with the water when the watercraft is being propelled by the engine. Preferably, during normal operation, the plate is substantially disposed in a plane parallel with, but no lower than, the bottom of the watercraft. The apparatus may be detachably and pivotally attached to the stern of the watercraft at a front side of the apparatus opposite the propeller, and may be adapted to permit vertical and lateral control of a rear side of the apparatus proximate to the propeller by an operator of the watercraft. Complete universal propulsion systems and universal watercraft apparatus are also described.

    摘要: A heat exchanger assembly is provided for a marine propulsion system having a closed loop cooling system. The heat exchanger body encloses a series of tubes carrying sea water which removes heat from the engine coolant. The heat exchanger includes an integrally connected top tank. A single venting orifice is provided into the top tank from the heat exchanger body. A heat exchanger coolant outlet is in direct fluid communication with both a system bypass and the coolant in the top tank. An auxiliary inlet for coolant from the top tank is located in the heat exchanger coolant outlet downstream of the bypass inlet, thereby promoting the ability of the system to draw coolant through the top tank rather than the bypass. The invention minimizes cavitation and reduces the creation of negative pressure at the circulating pump.

    摘要: A water jet propulsor powered by an integral canned electric motor includes a hollow housing having a hermetically sealed stator mounted therein. The stator is electrically connected to a source of electrical energy in the vessel. An impeller assembly that includes a tubular suction shroud and impeller is rotatably mounted inside the housing. The impeller assembly includes a hermetically sealed rotor which is mounted around the suction shroud and positioned inside the stator in operative association therewith. Energizing the stator rotates the rotor, which in turn rotates the impeller to pump water from the intake end of the housing to the outlet end of the housing and adds velocity and head to the water to be discharged from the outlet end. The discharged water creates thrust which propels the vessel.

    摘要: An outboard motor flushing apparatus for flushing a marine engine outboard propulsion unit includes a pair of sealing elements for covering the cooling water inlets of a marine engine propulsion unit. A U-shaped sealing element retainer has a pair of arms and has one of the sealing elements attached to each arm. An elongated hollow rigid pipe has a handle on one end and a metal rod on the other end thereof. The metal rod has an attaching clamp for removably attaching the metal rod and hollow rigid pipe to the U-shaped retainer. The hollow rigid pipe has a water coupling on each end thereof and one of the couplings has a flexible tube attached thereto into one of the sealing elements for conveying water from the hollow tube to the sealing element and the cooling water inlets of an outboard motor. The coupling at the other end of the hollow rigid pipe is attached to a water hose. The handle end of the rigid pipe has a water control valve on the handle for controlling the flow of water and both the handle end and the metal rod end are removably attached to a pipe so that the pipe can be interchanged for different lengths.

A plenum chamber is formed as a separate part of the air intake device and is connected to the carburetor through a transition portion that extends across the upper end of the plenum chamber. The plenum chamber is displaced forwardly of the carburetor so as to not interfere with it or restrict its size.

A first fitting (50) receives the top of the water tube in sealing relation. A second intermediate fitting (102) communicates with the first fitting and is sealed to the adapter plate along a horizontally extended oblong cavity area (40) having a first section (42) vertically aligned with the water tube, and a second section (43) vertically aligned with the water passage and the adapter plate. The intermediate fitting has an oblong groove (114) in its upper surface (112) surrounding an aperture (108) at one end thereof which is vertically aligned with the water tube, and being vertically aligned at its other end with the water passage in the adapter plate. A rubber O-ring ( 116) is conformed to the oblong groove and received therein and engages the underside of the adapter plate in sealing relation.

    摘要: Several embodiments of separate lubricating systems for two-cycle internal combustion engines and particularly those of outboard motors. In each embodiment, the lubricating system includes a relatively large lubricant storage tank that is adapted to be carried in the hull of the associated watercraft and a relatively small lubricant delivery tank carried by the engine of the outboard motor. A pump is provided for transferring lubricant from the storage tank to the delivery tank and warning devices are incorporated to indicate when the level in each of the tanks falls below a predetermined value. Furthermore, the transfer pump is disabled upon the falling of the level of the liquid in the storage tank below a predetermined value. The pump is positioned in proximity to this storage tank and is juxtaposed and plumbed in such a way that it will not pick up foreign particles from the bottom of the tank, but will always have its inlet and outlet subject to liquid so that the pump will not run dry. A system is provided for disabling the pump if the motor is tilted up and the delivery tank is vented in such a way that lubricant will not be spilled when the engine is tilted up and regardless of its angular position. Several embodiments of arrangements are disclosed for delivering lubricant from the delivery tank to the various components of the engine.
