Abstract:
An audio-visual system for providing correlated audio and visual presentations from audio-visual slides in a sequence corresponding to a branched learning format. Upon an operator selecting a presented response choice, a projected program containing first indicia providing a binary number indicating the number of steps and second indicia indicating the direction which the slide magazine should be stepped to be in position for presenting the next slide, is sensed and the binary number is stored in a register. The magazine is stepped in the indicated direction; and the number of steps taken are counted and compared to the binary number stored in the register. When the compared counts are equal, the stepping of the magazine is stopped.
Abstract:
A silver halide radiographic element comprising a polymeric film base, at least one silver halide emulsion layer, and at least one antistatic layer adhered to at least one side of said polymeric film base, wherein (1) said silver halide emulsion layer comprises tabular silver halide grains having an average diameter to thickness ratio of at least 3:1, and (2) said antistatic layer comprises a colloidal vanadium oxide and a sulfopolyester.
Abstract:
Methods of providing diffusing risers on a fresnel lens die having a plurality of optical facets, wherein adjacent optical facets are separated by a riser, the method including the steps of depositing a difflusing layer on the plurality of optical facets and the risers, and selectively removing the diffusing layer from the plurality of optical facets, wherein the diffusing layer remains substantially intact on the risers. The diffusing layer can be deposited in an electrolyte bath substantially free of grain refiners.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a method of preventing transmission of viral pathogens between a source of viral pathogens and a target of said viral pathogens comprising positioning between said source and said target a microporous membrane material comprising (1) a thermoplastic polymer or polytetrafluoroethylene and (2) a water- and oil-repellent fluorochemical compound which provides said membrane with oleophobic, hydrophobic and viral barrier properties.
Abstract:
An anisotropic elastic web, particularly an anisotropic elastic film layer having a machine direction and a cross direction and having a thickness of from 20 to 300 microns formed of an extruded blend of a block copolymer elastomer portion and a polyolefin polymer portion blended in a ratio of from 10:1 to 0.4:1, respectively. The elastomer portion generally is a block copolymer elastomer formed of A blocks and B blocks, the A blocks are formed predominately of monoalkenyl arene and the B blocks are formed predominately of conjugated diene. The polyolefin portion is comprised predominately of an inelastic fiber forming polyolefin polymer, copolymer or blend. The anisotropic film layer has a F10 force Ratio (MD to CD) of at least 1.5. This anisotropic elastic web is usable in a variety of garment applications where an elastic is supplied in roll form and requires strength in a machine direction and elastic properties in a cross direction.
Abstract:
A diaper construction is provided with an external porous reinforcement strip at the front part of the outside of the diaper, which strip provides reinforcement against an adhesive fastening tab and provides an oil-contamination tolerant adhesion surface.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to reduce fogging on electrostatic printing media is disclosed. A negative bias is applied to toning station(s) or vacuum station(s) of the printing apparatus with isolation of that negative bias from the printing media.
Abstract:
There is provided a cellulosic-based fiber granule with added non self-associating particulates or fibers. The resulting granule is free-flowing with a densified outer surface and is capable of removing substantially all oil from a flat surface such as a floor. The granule is also capable of being incinerated by being formed substantially of organic materials. Cellulosic plant fibers form at least 10 percent up to 99 percent of the granule. There is also provided a method for forming the incineratable oil an absorbent, free-flowing granules.
Abstract:
A metal-coated multilayer mirror having high reflectivity and high specularity. The mirror comprises a multilayered polymer film and a reflective metal layer. The multilayered polymer film preferably comprises layers of a crystalline, semi-crystalline, or liquid crystalline material, such as a naphthalene dicarboxylic acid polyester, having an average thickness of not more than 0.5 microns and layers of a second polymer having an average thickness of not more than 0.5 microns. Preferably, the layers of semi-crystalline naphthalene dicarboxylic acid polyester have a positive stress optical coefficient. The reflective metal layer comprises a metal selected from the group consisting of silver, gold, aluminum, nickel, copper, and titanium, with silver and aluminum being particularly preferred. The metal-coated multilayer mirrors are useful in applications requiring broad bandwidth reflection, high specularity, low manufacturing costs, and high reflectivity.
