Abstract:
The present invention discloses an aqueous, concentrated, stable, translucent, or preferably, clear, rinse added liquid fabric softening compositions which provide excellent water dispersibility in rinse water, comprising a fabric softening active and a principal solvent having a ClogP of from about 0.15 to about 0.64, and an asymmetric structure. In order to achieve the main object of the invention, namely excellent water dispersibility, the molar ratio of a principal solvent of a fabric softening active should be not less than 3, preferably from about 3.6 to about 100.
Abstract:
Principal solvents, especially mono-ol and diol principal solvents, having a ClogP of from about 0.15 to about 0.64, preferably from about 0.25 to about 0.62, and more preferably from about 0.40 to about 0.60, are disclosed that have the ability to make clear aqueous fabric softener compositions containing relatively high concentrations of fabric softener actives having highly unsaturated hydrocarbon moieties or branched chains in two long-chain hydrophobic groups with specific cis/trans ratios and having long chain hydrocarbon groups with an IV of from about 70 to about 140 for the unsaturated groups corresponding to fatty acids with the same number of carbons and the same configuration, and the said principal solvents are used at levels of less than about 40%. The fabric softener actives are preferably prepared in the presence of chelating agent and/or antioxidant, as disclosed herein. Such materials are new. Other solvents can be present. Premixes of the fabric softening actives, the principal solvents, and, optionally, other solvents are useful in the preparation of complete formulations by obviating/limiting the need for heating.
Abstract:
Basic cleaning compositions using toxicologically-acceptable ingredients for cleaning hard surfaces are provided. Compositions safe for use on surfaces which are contacted by food intended for ingestion by humans or lower animals, even when the compositions are incompletely removed from the cleansed surface, are described. Liquid formulations comprising surfactant, such as sodium alkyl sulfate, sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate, etc., and having a pH of above 11.6 are contacted directly onto hard surfaces to remove soil and unwanted deposits. Articles for applying the compositions to hard surfaces by spraying are disclosed.
Abstract:
An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the “shower rinsing” type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises: (a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and (c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.
Abstract:
Aqueous based cleaning compositions simultaneously featuring disinfecting, low residue deposit and good cleaning characteristics are provided. The compositions include one or more quaternary amine compounds as disinfecting active agents, an organic solvent system, one or more amine oxides, one or more nonionic alkylpolyglycosides, water and optionally further conventional additives including pH buffers, dyes, fragrances and the like.

Abstract:
Concentrated cleaning compositions are described which exhibit an increase in viscosity simply upon dilution with water. The concentrated and diluted ("ready-to-use") versions are useful in removing food and petroleum grease from hard surfaces (particularly non-horizontal surfaces), and may be formulated as petroleum degreasers, hand soaps and bathroom cleaners. The inventive compositions include an aggregate-forming organic compound, for example an amine oxide, and a nonaggregating or mildly aggregating organic compound, such as an organic alkyl alcohol having from about 4 to about 20 carbon atoms.
