An information processing apparatus is provided in which multiple types of information is stored and only predetermined information is deleted independent the other types of information that has been input to the apparatus. As such, after displaying on a screen a table of the various types of information being stored in the apparatus, if a thumbnail image is chosen and the delete key is selected, then only the image corresponding to the chosen thumbnail image is deleted from the memory, as well as from the table. In addition, sound and memo information relating to the chosen thumbnail image are maintained without change. If the execution key is selected after choosing a specific type of information, the chosen information is reproduced once, and after user confirms the content, the reproduced information is deleted by selecting the delete key. In addition, when a plurality of information is chosen, selection of the delete key deletes all the chosen information.

The present invention provides a digital camera capable of optimizing a timing of switching a display screen to a print setting screen including an image on which print settings are to be made. In a process of protecting or formatting a captured image in a playback mode, a process of recording a captured image in an image capturing mode, and the like, a request of a file access (writing) to a memory card is generated. In response to the request or the like, a state where a file in the memory card is protected from other accesses is set, and writing of the file starts. After that, writing of the file is completed, and various accesses to the file in the memory card are permitted. That is, during a file access (writing), in response to depression of a print button, an operation of reading an image file in the memory card and switching to a print mode is inhibited.

An image processing device comprises an image data input means 2, an image data storage means 12 for storing the image data being input, an image data processing means 6 having multiple processing modes for outputting the stored image data, and a image data erasing means for erasing the image data stored in the storage means 12. The device further comprises erase count control means 8, 14 for controlling the number of times for erasing image data capable of having the number of times of erase set arbitrarily according to the security level required for each mode, and capable of having the set number of times of erase changed in mid-flow. Confidentiality is protected by performing erase operations repeatedly to the region storing the unnecessary image data according to the security level.

A recording/reproducing apparatus has a network mode for transmitting and receiving image data through a network and a normal mode for recording and reproducing image data without connecting to a network. In a mode capable of switching between the network mode and the normal mode, the apparatus prohibits the data recording operation on a recording medium and the data erasing operation on the recording medium regardless of whether an accidental-recording prevention means is in a recording-allowed state or in a recording-prohibited state.

An image processing device includes an accumulating unit an information deleting unit and an information updating unit. The accumulating unit accumulates image information of a plurality of pages as a multipage file, wherein the multipage file includes identification information associated with the image information of each of the pages. The information deleting unit deletes image information of any page of the multipage file. The information updating unit updates, when image information of one or more of the pages of the multipage file has been deleted by the information deleting unit, identification information corresponding to the image information of the deleted page.

The recording medium includes a first region having a plurality of still pictures, and a second region having first virtual deletion information for the still pictures, and still picture group information for separating the still pictures in the first region into a predetermined maximum number of groups in order to manage the still pictures at a group level, wherein the first virtual deletion information is within the still picture group information, and if the first virtual deletion information is set to a virtual delete state, the corresponding still picture is not to be reproduced. Accordingly, file extent information can be prevented from excessively increasing by maximally preventing a recording area from being scattered, when some of a data file are deleted by a user's request.

An image file imaged by a digital camera is stored in a memory card, and the digital camera sets the number of prints for each image file according to the digital print order format (DPOF) standard and records the number as a printing information file in the memory card. When the number of prints is set, an image file in which at least one frame is designated for printing is determined to have a read-only file property in order to prevent the image file from being erased against the designation for printing. There is provided a mode for collectively designating all frames for printing.
