Abstract:
A dental component comprising a modified porcelain veneering coating thereon is provided, wherein the porcelain veneering coating can comprise a plurality of crystalline inclusions. The crystalline inclusions can serve to strengthen the porcelain veneering coating and the dental component as a whole. A method for the preparation of such treated implants is also provided, the method involving providing a dental component; applying a porcelain slurry comprising about 5% or more by weight of an additive capable of forming a crystalline silicate phase to at least a portion of the surface of the dental component to give a coated dental component; and firing the porcelain-coated dental component.
Abstract:
A fiber-based reflective lighting device. The lighting device includes a source configured to generate a primary light, a substrate including a mat of reflective nanofibers, and a light exit configured to emanate the reflected light. The fibers have an average fiber diameter AFD less than 500 nm which diffusively reflects visible light upon illumination with at least the primary light. The mat has a basis weight less than 40 gram per square meter (gsm) and a reflectance greater than 80%.
Abstract:
A process for removing sulphur oxides from a fluid stream, such as flue gas, comprising: providing a non-aqueous absorption liquid containing at least one hydrophobic amine, the liquid being incompletely miscible with water; treating the fluid stream in an absorption zone with the non-aqueous absorption liquid to transfer at least part of the sulphur oxides into the non-aqueous absorption liquid and to form a sulphur oxide-hydrophobic amine-complex; causing the non-aqueous absorption liquid to be in liquid-liquid contact with an aqueous liquid whereby at least part of the sulphur oxide-hydrophobic amine-complex is hydrolyzed to release the hydrophobic amine and sulphurous hydrolysis products, and at least part of the sulphurous hydrolysis products is transferred into the aqueous liquid; separating the aqueous liquid from the non-aqueous absorption liquid. The process mitigates absorbent degradation problems caused by sulphur dioxide and oxygen in flue gas.
Abstract:
An ultrasound device including an ultrasonic transducer device having a plurality of transducer elements forming a transducer array is provided. Each transducer element includes a piezoelectric material disposed between a first electrode and a second electrode. One of the first and second electrodes is a ground electrode and the other of the first and second electrodes is a signal electrode. The ultrasound device further includes a cable assembly having a plurality of connective signal elements and a plurality of connective ground elements extending in substantially parallel relation therealong. Each connective element is configured to form an electrically-conductive engagement with respective ones of the signal electrodes and the ground electrodes of the transducer elements in the transducer array. The connective ground elements are alternatingly disposed with the connective signal elements across the cable assembly, to provide shielding between the connective signal elements.
Abstract:
A thermoelectric structure including a thermoelectric material having a thickness less than 50 nm and a semi-insulating material in electrical contact with the thermoelectric material. The thermoelectric material and the semi-insulating materials have an equilibrium Fermi level, across a junction between the thermoelectric material and the semi-insulating material, which exists in a conduction band or a valence band of the thermoelectric material. The thermoelectric structure is for thermoelectric cooling and thermoelectric power generation.
Abstract:
A method is provided for removal of sulfur gases and recovery of elemental sulfur from sulfur gas containing supply streams, such as syngas or coal gas, by contacting the supply stream with a catalyst, that is either an activated carbon or an oxide based catalyst, and an oxidant, such as sulfur dioxide, in a reaction medium such as molten sulfur, to convert the sulfur gases in the supply stream to elemental sulfur, and recovering the elemental sulfur by separation from the reaction medium.
Abstract:
A thermoelectric device and method of manufacturing the device, where thermoelectric elements of opposite conductivity type are located on respective opposing sides of a heat source member. Heat sinks are disposed on opposite sides of the thermoelectric elements. Peltier metal contacts are positioned between the thermoelectric elements and each of the heat source member and heat sinks. A plurality of devices may be arranged together in a thermally parallel, electrically series arrangement, or in a thermally parallel, electrically parallel arrangement. The arrangement of the elements allow the direction of current flow through the pairs of elements to be substantially the same as the direction of current flow through the metal contacts.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a class of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds which bind to opioid receptors. The inventive compounds can be used to treat a variety of disease states which involve the opioid receptors.
Abstract:
The present application relates to novel opioid receptor antagonists and agonists, methods of making these compounds, and methods of use thereof.
Abstract:
A thermoelectric cooling and heating device including a substrate, a plurality of thermoelectric elements arranged on one side of the substrate and configured to perform at least one of selective heating and cooling such that each thermoelectric element includes a thermoelectric material, a Peltier contact contacting the thermoelectric material and forming under electrical current flow at least one of a heated junction and a cooled junction, and electrodes configured to provide current through the thermoelectric material and the Peltier contact. As such, the thermoelectric cooling and heating device selectively biases the thermoelectric elements to provide on one side of the thermolectric device a grid of localized heated or cooled junctions.
