Abstract:
An apparatus for production of a gypsum product is provided which comprises a conveyer comprising a conveyer belt and means for rotating the conveyer belt; means for forming a gypsum product; and at least one laser scanner positioned over the conveyer belt at the location where the scanner scans at least one edge of the gypsum product which is at least partially set; and the laser scanner is in communication with a processor. Methods for forming a gypsum product with the apparatus are provided as well.
Abstract:
Disclosed are cementitious product, as well as cementitious slurry, and method of forming the product. To reduce density in the cementitious product, foam is included in the slurry and in the method of forming the product. The slurry includes cementitious particles, water, and air bubbles such as from compressed air. Instead of using detergent chemistry at the gas/water interface of bubbles, the present invention uses a surface modifying agent for the cementitious particles in the slurry. The modified particles act to produce stable foam in the slurry. As an example mode of introduction, the surface modifier can be added (e.g., as solid or solution) directly into a bulk cementitious slurry that forms the product. As another example, the surface modifier can be added in a separate solution with water, air bubbles, and cementitious particles that serve as additive to the main cementitious slurry, where the separate solution is then added to the main cementitious slurry.
Abstract:
A wallboard joint tape designed to cover a seam joint defined by joining adjacent sheets of wallboard includes an elongate length of tape being supplied as a rolled strip having a first side edge and a second side edge wrapped around a center member having a central opening. The strip has an upper side and an opposite lower side. A lengthwise crease is provided along a centered longitudinal line of the lower side. A plurality of indicators is provided for marking at least one side edge of the tape for enhancing a proper orientation of the tape. The proper orientation of the tape is determined based on a location of the indicators upon the tape.
Abstract:
The invention generally provides gypsum-containing slurries including stucco, naphthalenesulfonate dispersant, and pregelatinized starch. The naphthalenesulfonate dispersant is present in an amount of about 0.1% -3.0% by weight based on the weight of dry stucco. The pregelatinized starch present in an amount of at least about 0.5% by weight up to about 10% by weight of pregelatinized starch by weight based on the weight of dry stucco in the formulation. Other slurry additives can include trimetaphosphate salts, accelerators, binders, paper fiber, glass fiber, and other known ingredients. The invention also comprises the gypsum-containing products made with such slurries, for example, gypsum wallboard, and a method of making gypsum wallboard.
Abstract:
A nozzle is provided configured for applying sealant to a construction panel joint. The nozzle includes a nozzle body having a first, supply end, and a second, outlet end opposite the supply end, the body defining an internal passageway. Also included on the nozzle is at least one tooling formation located at the outlet end and constructed and arranged for tooling a bead of sealant dispensed out the passageway from the outlet end.
Abstract:
A joint compound system is provided including a main container of base joint compound; and an additive container isolated from the base joint compound and housing at least one and preferably multiple water soluble additive packages constructed and arranged so that the additive packages are protected from exposure to moisture prior to their ultimate mixing with the base joint compound.
Abstract:
Provided are compositions and methods for expeditious wall installation by spray-applying a joint compound comprising a polymeric binder and hollow spheres.
Abstract:
A wooden frame truss with enhanced fire resistance is provided and includes an upper chord extending along a longitudinal axis, a lower chord disposed below the upper chord and extending along a vertically displaced, parallel axis, a plurality of supports attached between the upper and lower chords, and a plurality of metal gusset plates securing the supports to the chords. At least one wallboard batten strip is attached to an underside of the lower chord, the strip being constructed and arranged so that the strip defines a ledge extending from each side of the lower chord.
Abstract:
A joint compound tool including a handle having a first end and a second end where a blade portion is attached to the first end and a mixing member is attached to the second end. The handle, the blade portion and the mixing member each have substantially the same thickness where the mixing member is used to mix joint compound and the blade is used to apply the joint compound to a surface.
Abstract:
A durable, moisture-resistant gypsum product is provided with smooth furnish which comprises a laminated glass fiber mat in which glass fibers are compressed and cross-linked with a thermosetting polymeric resin. Methods for making these gypsum products and glass fiber mats are provided as well.
