Abstract:
A drawer apparatus having a drawer chassis and a drawer adapted to move relative to the drawer chassis from a closed position to an open position. The drawer has first and second lateral sides. A lid assembly is moveable from an upward position to a downward position relative to the drawer chassis. The lid assembly has first and second roller members. A first lever arm is rotatable about a first pivot on the first lateral side. The first lever arm has a first surface for moveably engaging with the first roller member. A second lever arm is rotatable about a second pivot on the second lateral side. The second lever arm has a second surface for moveably engaging with the second roller. A handle connects the first and second lever arms. The handle is adapted to move the first and second lever arms respectively about the first and second pivots to move the lid assembly from the downward position to the upward position.
Abstract:
A system, apparatus and method for using modular microscopes is disclosed. Connecting the housings of the individual microscope modules provide the structural framework of the modular microscope. Furthermore, the modular microscope can include specialized software, the distribution and use of which can be controlled using security keys or identifiers stored on one or more of the microscope modules. The security keys and identifiers can be based on calibration data associated with the physical, electrical, or optical properties of one of more of the modules. The illumination modules disclosed provide for selectable wavelengths and controllable levels of output illumination for both bright field and dark field illumination.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an apparatus for debubbling or degassing a liquid. The apparatus includes a tube with a hollow lumen and a gas-permeable, liquid-impermeable wall surrounding the lumen. Also disclosed is a method for performing the debubbling or degassing, wherein the liquid is passed through the tube and gas is allowed to escape through the wall of the tube. The application additionally discloses a system for debubbling or degassing a liquid, wherein a pump is connected to the upstream end of the tube and a device to impede the flow of liquid out the tube is connected to the downstream end.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods of detecting a target molecule in a sample comprising incubating the sample with two or more detectably labeled probes, partitioning the sample into multiple partitions, and detecting the presence of the two or more probes in the same partition.
Abstract:
This invention provides for methods of sequencing and performing polymerase reactions using an improved generation of nucleic acid polymerases. The improvement is the fusion of a sequence-non-specific nucleic-acid-binding domain to the enzyme in a manner that enhances the processivity of the polymerase.
Abstract:
An improved calibration process for a medical testing machine. The machine automatically recognizes that a package of calibration material has been inserted into it, and performs a calibration sequence to ascertain a calibration parameter to be used in performing future tests with the medical testing machine. The calibration package may include machine-readable indicators that the package is to be used for calibration, and of a calibration setpoint of a calibration material in the package. A calibration material may be stored in a lyophilized state in the package, and the medical testing machine may automatically reconstitute the lyophilized material.
Abstract:
Electrotransfer is performed in an instrument that receives electroblotting cassettes and that contains an integrated power supply, controls, and a display that allows the user to monitor and control each of a plurality of cassettes individually through electrical contacts within the housing that mate with corresponding electrical contacts on the cassettes.
Abstract:
System, including methods, apparatus, compositions, and kits, for making and using compound droplets of a multiple emulsion to supply an amplification reagent, such as a heat-stable DNA polymerase or DNA ligase, to an aqueous phase in which the compound droplets are disposed. The compound droplets may be induced to supply the amplification reagent by heating the multiple emulsion, to achieve hot-start amplification.
Abstract:
Conjugates of 1,3-bis(1,4,7-triazacyclonon-1-yl)-2-hydroxypropanes with a variety of conjugating members are used in the formation of dinuclear metal complexes which bind to phosphate esters. By virtue of their conjugated forms, the complexes are incorporated into chromatographic media, affinity binding reagents, and dyes, which make the complexes useful in a wide range of assays, separations, and purifications. In addition, dinuclear metal complexes of 1,3-bis(1,4,7-triazacyclonon-1-yl)-2-hydroxypropanes that are not so conjugated are used in the detection of phosphate esters of biological species by either MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry or by dye displacement.
Abstract:
Proteins that are electrophoretically separated in a gel are derivatized to produce fluorescent emissions by incorporating halo-substituted organic compounds into one or both of the electrode buffer solutions at the two ends of the gel. The halo-substituted compounds used are ones that bear an electric charge at the pH of the buffer solutions and gel, and the polarity of the charge on the compounds is such that the compounds migrate from the electrode buffer into the gel under the electrophoretic influence concurrently with the migration of the proteins into the gel. Once the proteins are separated and distributed within the gel and the gel is fully penetrated with the halo-substituted compounds, the gel is irradiated with ultraviolet light to induce a reaction between the halo-substituted compounds and the proteins through the tryptophan residues on the proteins, producing fluorescent reaction products.
