Abstract:
The present invention provides for the use of an aqueous dispersion of particles composed of polymer and finely divided inorganic solid (aqueous composite-particle dispersion) as a binder in elastic coatings, such as paints, more particularly exterior architectural paints, comprising preparing the aqueous composite-particle dispersion by dispersely distributing ethylenically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium and carrying out polymerization by means of at least one free-radical polymerization initiator in the presence of at least one dispersely distributed, finely divided inorganic solid having an average particle diameter ≦100 nm and at least one dispersant by the method of free-radically aqueous emulsion polymerization, and using as ethylenically unsaturated monomers a monomer mixture which comprises ethylenically unsaturated monomers A and optionally 0% to ≦10% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer B containing an epoxide group (epoxide monomer).
Abstract:

The present invention provides for the use of aqueous film-forming formulations comprising at least one copolymer P as film-forming constituent which is present in disperse form in the formulation and is composed of ethylenically unsaturated monomers M, the monomers M comprising i. from 70 to 99.9% by weight of at least one ester of methacrylic acid with a C1-C10-alkanol and ii. from 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one different monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least 50% by weight of the monomers M being other than methyl methacrylate and not more than 1% by weight of the monomers M having two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds, for coating mineral moldings. The present invention additionally provides a method of coating the mineral moldings, and also the mineral moldings themselves.

Abstract:
An aqueous coating composition for blocking stains and a method of using the coating composition is described. The coating composition includes an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer that is derived from a single stage emulsion polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated nonionic monomer, greater than 0 and less than 1.5% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated strong acid monomer or salt thereof, and greater than 1.5% and less than 3% by weight of methacrylic acid.
