Abstract:
A method and apparatus for associating text information with numerical information. A first phrase corresponding to a time period is generated. The first phrase represents a change in first numerical information over the time period. The first numerical information includes time-series data pertaining to a financial index. The text information is retrieved through use of a retrieval condition that includes the first phrase. The first numerical information is retrieved through use of the retrieval condition and the first phrase. The extracted text information and the retrieved first numerical information are outputted in association with each other.
Abstract:
A competition arbitration system in which chances for using a resource of a computer such as a bus or the like among devices are fair is provided. Pulses are sequentially generated periodically from a pulse generating circuit. It is assumed that first device outputted first bus request signal and second device continuously outputted second bus request signal before rising timing of the first pulse. When a bus arbiter outputs a bus grant signal to the first device at the rising timing of the first pulse, the bus master of the first device outputs a bus use acknowledgment signal. Then a use grant inhibiting circuit receives the acknowledgment signal and outputs an inhibition signal for inhibiting use of other devices. Thus, the first device holds the use right of a bus and bus use requests of other devices are reserved.

A machine translation method and system for improving the accuracy of the selection of appropriate words, without incurring any deterioration of the processing efficiency, includes registering, during the translation of a document by using a compound word dictionary, elemental word information of an applied compound word in a discourse dictionary, and employing a plurality of dictionaries, including the discourse dictionary, to translate the document without using a compound word dictionary.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for associating a part of a source language text with a translation pattern to translate that part into a target language. Translation patterns are provided, each of which comprises a source language pattern, a target language pattern corresponding to the source language pattern, a variable corresponding to the source language pattern, and a variable corresponding to the target language pattern. If a part of the source language text matches a source language pattern, that source language pattern is represented with a first variable and the corresponding target language pattern is represented by a second variable. If the part of the source language text which is represented with the first variable matches another source language pattern with a nested structure in which at least the first variable is included, that source language pattern is represented with a third variable and the target language pattern which corresponds to that source language pattern and has a nested structure in which the second variable is included is represented by a fourth variable. A translation can be provided by applying all the corresponding parts of the target language text to such a translation pattern.
Abstract:
In a machine translation method and apparatus, an input text analyzer analyzes an input text in a first language to form a graph structure of nodes and edges. An equivalent selector introduces variables to ambiguous components of the graph structure by a variable introducer. A constraint solver propagates constraints on the variables to other components. Solutions are then found for equivalent determination and locally consistent solutions are also found for the respective components. A variable realizer finds solutions to the respective locally consistent components according to the patterns of the variables. An output text generator then generates text in a second language from a set of these solutions. Thus, the method and apparatus enable avoidance of an explosion of combinations between source words and equivalents capable of occurring in the analysis phase and also enables the optimum use of information through deferring the determination of words or phrases in the second language of ambiguous components to the text generation phase.

Abstract:
Manufacturing method for a tubular shell of a constant velocity universal-joint for flexibly coupling two rotary shafts, to one of which the shell is fixed at a flange thereof. The method comprises a groove and preliminary flange forming process and a flange forming process. In the former process a hollow cylindrical blank is applied pressing in a radial direction for forming plural grooves therein and forming at the same time a preliminary flange at one end of the cylindrical blank by expanding it into a funnel shape, and in the latter process the preliminary flange formed on a semi-finished article in the former process is formed into a completed flange by a flange forming die, while holding the semi-finished article in a restrained status under pressure from either side, external and internal, by means of restraining dies. An apparatus suitable for performing the method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A shell for a universal joint for flexibly coupling two rotary shafts. The shell is constructed using a manufacturing technique to produce a shell of light weight and excellent strength. The shell generally has a hollow cylindrical configuration and is secured at one end to a rotary shaft and formed to have a plurality of grooves extending parallel to its cylindrical axis. A second rotary shaft includes portions which engage the plurality of grooves for transmitting movement from one shaft to the other through the shell. The shell may be formed using a tubular work piece or a planar work piece, and may be provided in substantially complete form by use of a machine press prior to subjecting the material to an ironing process to make the grooves of accurate shape and dimension. The process is performed such that no machining is required to form the grooves and produce the shell.
