Abstract:
The present invention provides genetically engineered host organisms capable of producing terpenoids. The present invention also relates terpenoids obtained from such genetically engineered organisms. Examples of the produced terpenoids include carotenoids, ionones, abienol, and other isoprenoid derived compounds. In addition, the invention relates to a methods of for the preparation of terpenoids using such a genetically engineered organism.
Abstract:
A system and method for effecting communication between a plurality of healthcare measurement devices and a remote patient monitoring server is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of effecting communication between the healthcare measurement devices and the remote patient monitoring server, includes communicating with an healthcare gateway device using a common gateway protocol to receive translated data via a plurality of translation units associated with a plurality of device communication modules residing in wired and wireless healthcare measurement devices, and communicating with the remote patient monitoring server using a plurality of remote protocols residing in a plurality of remote communication modules to transmit the received translated data. In some embodiments, the healthcare gateway device is communicatively coupled between the healthcare management devices and the remote patient monitoring server.
Abstract:
A system and method for cooperative control of surgical tool includes a tool holder for receiving a surgical tool adapted to be held by a robot and a surgeon, a sensor for detecting a force based on operator input and/or tool tip forces, a controller for limiting robot velocity based upon the force detected so as to provide a haptic feedback, a selector for automatically selecting one level of a multi-level audio feedback based upon the detected force applied, the audio feedback representing the relative intensity of the force applied, and an audio device for providing the audio feedback together with the haptic feedback. The audio feedback provides additional information to the surgeon that allows lower forces to be applied during the operation.
Abstract:
A method and system for micro-force guided cooperative control that assists the operator in manipulating tissue in the direction of least resistance. A tool holder receives a surgical tool adapted to be held by a robot and a surgeon. A first sensor measures interaction forces between a tip of the surgical tool and tissue of a region of interest. A second sensor measures interaction forces between the surgeon and a handle to the surgical tool. A data processor is configured to perform an algorithm to actively guide the surgical tool by creating a bias towards a path of least resistance and limit directional tool forces of the surgical tool as a function of handle input forces and tip forces. This function offers assistance to challenging retinal membrane peeling procedures that require a surgeon to delicately delaminate fragile tissue that is susceptible to hemorrhage and tearing due to undesirable forces.
Abstract:
A method of forming an oxide coating for reducing the accumulation of radioactive species on a metallic surface exposed to fluids containing charged particles is disclosed. The method includes preparing an aqueous colloidal suspension containing about 0.5 to about 35 weight percent of nanoparticles that contain at least one of titania and zirconia, and about 0.1% to about 10% 2-[2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy]acetic acid (C7H14O5) or polyfluorosufonic acid in water, depositing the aqueous colloidal suspension on the metallic surface, drying the aqueous colloidal suspension to form a green coating, and then heating the green coating to a temperature of up to 500° C. to densify the green coating to form an oxide coating having a zeta potential less than or equal to the electrical polarity of the charged particles so as to minimize deposition of the charged particles on the metallic surface. The nanoparticles have a diameter of up to about 200 nanometers.
Abstract:
A method and a device for removing high priority samples from a primary conveyor and transferring such samples directly to an analyzer's sampling location even if other samples have been previously removed from the conveyor and are in a queue to be analyzed.
Abstract:
A method for automatically determining whether a reagent container is new and unused or whether the reagent container has been previously used whenever reagent containers are initially placed onto an analyzer. Unused containers have a flag or lock-out member that can be dislodged or relocated by a moveable sensor probe when containers are placed onto the analyzer.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and system of user content in advertisements are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of advertising to a user includes receiving user content from the user, sending the user content to an ad unit, processing the user content (e.g., through applying a facial recognition algorithm to an image), incorporating the user content into an advertisement and displaying the advertisement (e.g., on a website) to the user. The method may further include storing the user content in a server. The method may further include generating the advertisement based on the processing of the user content. In another embodiment, a system for advertising to a user includes a server configured to receive user content from the user, and an ad unit configured to process the user content, incorporate the user content into an advertisement, and transmit the advertisement to the user.
