Abstract:
A permanent magnet machine is provided with a rotor positioned at least partially within a stator. The rotor includes first and second ring segments oriented axially around a central axis. The rotor defines first and second configurations in the first and second ring segments, respectively. The first configuration is sufficiently different from the second configuration such that torque ripple may be minimized. A first layer of slots, defining a slot outer edge, may be formed in the rotor. In one embodiment, a stator-to-slot gap varies between the first and second ring segments. In another embodiment, a stator-rotor gap varies between the first and second ring segments. In another embodiment, a bridge thickness varies between the first and second ring segments. Thus the rotor exhibits axial asymmetry.
Abstract:
Various embodiments for automated error recovery in a computing storage environment by a processor device are provided. In one embodiment, pursuant to performing one of creating a new and rebuilding an existing logical partition (LPAR) operable in the computing storage environment by a hardware management console (HMC) in communication with the LPAR, at least one failure scenario is evaluated by identifying error code. If a failure is caused by an operation of the HMC and a malfunction of a current network connection, a cleanup operation is performed on at least a portion of a current HMC configuration, an alternative network connection to the current network connection is made, and a retry operation is performed.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an image tracking system that tracks the motion of an object. The image processing system tracks the motion of an object with an image recording device that records a first image of an object to be tracked and shortly thereafter records a second image of the object to be tracked. The system analyzes data from the first and the second images to provide a difference image of the object, defined by a bit map of pixels. The system processes the difference image to determine a threshold and calculates a centroid of the pixels in the difference image above the threshold. The system then determines the center of the difference image and determines a motion vector defined by the displacement from the center to the centroid and determines a pan tilt vector based on the motion vector and outputs the pan tilt vector to the image recording device to automatically track the object.
Abstract:
The foregoing objects are achieved as is now described. Provided are a method and system for utilization with wireless communications systems having a cellular architecture covering a geographic area. The method and system accomplish their objects via the following. The geographic area is defined. One or more pairs of the sectors within the defined geographic area wherein a weak connection zone exists are determined. The geographic area is decomposed into two or more sub-areas wherein each sub-area is isolated from other sub-areas by the determined one or more pairs of sectors having a weak connection zone. A first of the sub-areas is selected. Frequency groups are assigned to each sector within the first selected sub-area such that signal to noise ratio is optimized. Thereafter, a second of the sub-areas is selected. One or more sectors within the second selected one of the sub-areas which are linked to sectors within the first selected sub-area are selected. Frequency groups are assigned to the selected sectors within the selected second of the sub-areas such that signal to noise ratio in the selected sector within the selected second of the sub-areas is optimized. Thereafter, frequency groups are assigned to every other sector within the selected second of the sub-areas such that signal to noise ratio is optimized across the second selected sub-area and such that signal to noise ratio over the defined geographic area is optimized.
Abstract:
An improved ultra-fast cooling system is disclosed for cryopreservation of biomaterials. The ultra-fast cooling system is designed to uniformly vitrify or partially vitrify biomaterials, including but not limited to, human biomaterials, proteins, peptides, cells, stem cells, antibodies, neurons, human tissue, organs, cornea, skin, retina, eggs, sperm, embryos, body fluids, blood, serum, lymph fluid, animal tissue, plant biomaterials, plant tissue, germ plasma, pollen, plant sap, and bioengineered tissue, without cryoprotectants or with a low concentration of cryoprotectants. Cooling rates are sufficient to uniformly cryopreserve biomaterials, and can be used in diagnostic cytology and biological cryofixation applications. Other materials also can be cooled uniformly, such as inorganic materials for processing.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a high-throughput sequencing method for methylated DNA, and use thereof. Particularly, the present invention provides a high-throughput sequencing method for methylated DNA, which combines methylated DNA immunoprecipitation, removal of repetitive sequences, and bisulfite treatment. The site of sequencing library will be decreased, and the cost will be reduced by using the method disclosed in the present invention.
Abstract:
A sequence for distributing at least one of a plurality of code packages to the at least one facility according to different states of a fixed state machine is set. The at least one of the plurality of code packages is installed in at least one staging area. The at least one of the plurality of code packages is maintained in the at least one staging area in a valid, dormant mode while the fixed state machine is stopped. Pursuant to a resumption of the fixed state machine at a subsequent time, a current code package is swapped with the at least one of the plurality of code packages in the at least one staging area to activate the at least one of the plurality of code packages.
Abstract:
Improved electron acceptor materials for organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells are provided. More specifically, electron acceptor materials for OPVs can include vinylimide, vinylthioimide, alkynylimide and/or alkynylthioimide moieties. Experimental work with members of this class of material has demonstrated record solar cell power conversion efficiency (3.36%) for non-fullerene acceptors.
Abstract:
An electric machine is provided with a rotor configured to be rotatable within a stator. A first and second tooth are disposed circumferentially along an outer perimeter of the rotor and at least partially define a first slot. The first and the second tooth define a respective first and second outer edge extending between a respective tooth base and a respective tooth tip. An arc radius from the origin to the outer perimeter of the rotor varies along the first outer edge of the first tooth, thereby creating a first non-uniform gap between the rotor and the stator. The arc radius from the origin to the outer perimeter of the rotor varies along the second outer edge of the second tooth, thereby creating a second non-uniform gap between the rotor and the stator. The rotor geometry is configured to reduce torque ripple without skewing either the rotor or the stator.
