    Abstract: Introduced here is an approach to mitigating (e.g., lessening or eliminating) the high-frequency interference pattern that is caused by uneven surfaces along the coupling interface formed between the waveguide and probe of an interferometric sensing system. The approach is to reduce the high-frequency interference pattern caused by the interference when a waveguide−for example, in the form of an optical fiber−and a probe are directly coupled to one another. Specifically, the coupling surface of the waveguide can be treated, for example, with sandpaper, sandblasting, or acid etching, to create a frosted surface texture. In operation, the frosted surface scatters the light transmitted through the waveguide, preventing the high-frequency interference pattern from occurring.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a cartridge assembly tray for conducting automated biochemical tests, such as immunoassay tests. The tray comprises a base member, a hinged frame and a locking mechanism. The base member includes a plurality of slots within the base member. Each of the plurality of slots is to receive a test cartridge. The hinged frame is coupled to the base member. The hinged frame is capable to rotate to an opened position or a closed position. The hinged frame includes a horizontal push bar configured to apply a downward force to test cartridges received in the plurality of slots when the hinged frame is in the closed position. The locking mechanism is to lock the hinged frame in the closed position when the hinged frame rotates to the closed position.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a cartridge for an immunoassay test. The cartridge comprises (a) a probe well comprising a probe and a cap, the cap being in a closed position to enclose the probe in the probe well, wherein the probe has a bottom tip coated with analyte-binding molecules; (b) a sample well to receive a sample; (c) one or more reagent wells; (d) a plurality of wash wells each containing a first aqueous solution; and (e) a measurement well having a light transmissive bottom, the measurement well containing a second aqueous solution; wherein the openings of the sample well, reagent well, measurement well and wash wells are sealed. The present invention also relates to an apparatus for loading and releasing a probe. The apparatus comprises a push pin and a groove to load and transfer the probe to a plurality of locations, such as different wells in the above-mentioned cartridge, to conduct the immunoassay test.

    Abstract: Introduced here are interferometric sensors that can be used to conduct biochemical tests. Each interferometric sensor includes an interference layer that is secured along the surface of a monolithic substrate. Analyte-binding molecules can be coated along the surface of the interference layer. Over the course of a biochemical test, a biolayer will form as analyte molecules in a sample bind to the analyte-binding molecules. The refractive index of the monolithic substrate is higher than the refractive index of the interference layer. Moreover, the interference layer may be designed such that its refractive index is substantially similar to the refractive index of the biolayer.
