Disclosed is a method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium capable of effectively and reliably removing foreign materials on the surface of a magnetic recording medium, preventing a mask layer from remaining on the surface of the magnetic recording medium, and forming the pattern of a magnetic layer with high productivity. The method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium includes: a step of forming a magnetic layer on a non-magnetic substrate; a step of forming a mask layer on the magnetic layer; a step of patterning the mask layer to form a mask pattern; a step of forming a magnetic recording pattern on the magnetic layer using the mask pattern; a step of burnishing the surface of the mask pattern with an abrasive; and a step of removing the mask pattern.

There is provided a method of producing a magnetic recording medium having a magnetically separated magnetic recording pattern formed therein, without oxidizing or halogenating a surface of a magnetic layer, and also without contaminating the surface with dust and without complicating a production process,the method of producing a magnetic recording medium characterized by including, in this order: a step of forming a magnetic layer (2) on top of a non-magnetic substrate (1); a step of forming a mask layer (3) for forming a magnetic recording pattern on top of the magnetic layer (2); and a step of irradiating an ion beam (10) onto regions in the magnetic layer (2) which are not covered by the mask layer (3), removing an upper layer portion of the magnetic layer (2) at that regions (7), and reforming magnetic properties of a lower layer portion (8), wherein two or more types of positive ions having different masses are used for the ion beam (10), and an ion gun for forming the ion beam has a positive electrode that forces out positive ions from an ion source towards a substrate side, and a negative electrode that accelerates the positive ions towards the substrate side.

A metal layer 9 formed on the pad electrode 3 has a plurality of concave portions 10 to 13 formed therein by covering the opening regions 5 to 8. Moreover, in a peripheral portion at a bottom of each of the concave portions 10 to 13 in the metal layer 9, the metal layer 9 and a Cu plating layer 19 react with each other. By use of this structure, the metal reaction area serves as a current path on the pad electrode 3. Thus, a resistance value on the pad electrode 3 is reduced.

An image pickup apparatus includes a video camera shooting a material placed on a stage to obtain an image signal delivered to an external reproducing equipment and a column for supporting the video camera so that the video camera is located over a central portion of the stage. The column is formed into a vertical two-stage structure including an upper column and a lower column. The video camera is located over the central portion of the stage when the lower column is rotated to stand and the upper column is extended straightforward from the lower column. The upper column is rotated so as to be folded at right angles to the lower column when an object in the rear of the stage is shot by the video camera. When the apparatus is folded, the lower column is brought down to lie along the stage and the upper column is folded relative to the lower column.
