    摘要: A drug vial adapter according to the invention includes: a first coupling member having a female luer connector (preferably a luer lock) with a fluid path therethrough, a flange having a first sealing ring seat formed therein and a first mating structure; a second cylindrical coupling member having a centrally located septum piercing tube with a fluid path therethrough and a second mating structure; and a valve member including a valve stem and a resilient valve body having an annular sealing surface. A valve body seat is formed in the interior of the second coupling member by a plurality of radially arranged stepped vanes. According to a preferred embodiment, the second coupling member is formed as a stepped cylinder having a relatively large diameter adjacent the point of the septum piercing tube, a relatively small diameter adjacent the valve body seat and an intermediate diameter therebetween. The presently preferred valve body is substantially frustroconical having a relatively broad end with a stepped axial bore defining the annular sealing surface. The presently preferred valve stem has a stepped cylindrical portion which fits into the axial bore of the valve body and a pair of spaced apart upstanding members which extend into the female luer.

    摘要: A surgical trocar assembly includes a disposable valve assembly, a cannula assembly, and a trocar with a handle. The cannula assembly includes a cannula base having a valve assembly coupling device at its proximal end, and a cannula extending from its distal end. The disposable valve assembly has a coupling device for removably coupling it with the cannula base. The valve assembly also includes a valve body with a fluid passage communicating with the hollow cannula when it is coupled to the cannula base. A slit or flapper valve and a universal washer are mounted within the valve body and allow the insertion of the trocar or other endoscopic instruments therethrough while providing a fluid sealing of the fluid passage. The valve assembly may be provided with a side port which optionally contains an automatic valve actuated by a luer coupling. Several different valve assembly-cannula base couplings are disclosed as well as several different types of trocars.

    摘要: An automatic fluid valve which permits insertion of a surgical instrument therethrough is disclosed and includes an elastomeric slit valve with a plurality of raised surgical instrument engaging protrusions on a proximal surface thereof. Typically, the slit valve is a tricuspid valve, and three protrusions would be provided. The protrusions may take many forms, including barbells or other shaped elements which are insert molded into the slit valve, or bumps which are molded as part of the slit valve. If the protrusions are insert molded, the protrusions are preferably made of a material having a coefficient of friction lower than then the coefficient of friction of the elastomeric, typically silicone, member. If the protrusions are part of the valve, they are preferably coated with a slippery coating such as TEFLON. The faces of the protrusions may also take different forms such as hemispheres, or elongated ribs.

    摘要: A needleless IV injection port assembly includes a spiked body provided with a hollow spike, a female luer component, a flexible and resilient spike boot having a tip and spring portion, a centering member, and a resilient swabbable septum. The spike boot extends over the spike, the centering member is provided over a portion of the spike and spike boot, and the septum is provided between the centering member and an end of the female luer component. The spiked body and the female luer component are secured together to complete the assembly. The length of the female luer component and/or the length of the spike is chosen so that when a separate male luer is positioned over a protuberance on the septum and pushed into the female luer component, the male luer places pressure upon the septum which thereby urges the septum toward the spike. The pressure on the septum causes the spring portion of the boot to be compressed and the tip portion of the boot to be pierced by the tip of the spike. As the septum is further compressed, the septum extends over the spike, with a pre-slit hole in the septum facilitating the extension thereover, such that a hollow of the spike is in fluid communication with the male luer connector. The injection port causes minimal reflux, and the spike boot and septum provide a swabbable antibacterial double barrier over the spike.
