摘要: A surgical instrument system is disclosed. The surgical instrument system comprises a proximal end, a distal end, a first jaw, and a second jaw. The first jaw is movable relative to the second jaw to capture tissue. The surgical instrument system further comprises a sensor system configured to sense the impedance of the tissue at a plurality of discrete locations, a staple cartridge comprising staple cavities, staples removably stored in the staple cavities, an anvil, a firing system configured to move the staples toward the anvil, an electric motor configured to move the firing system toward the distal end during a firing stroke, and a control system. The control system is configured to evaluate the impedance of the tissue at the discrete locations and control the power applied to the electric motor during the firing stroke as the firing system moves relative to the discrete locations.

摘要: A surgical stapling system for stapling patient tissue is disclosed. The surgical stapling system comprises an end effector and an actuation system. The end effector comprises a first jaw, a movable jaw operably attached to the first jaw, and a plurality of staples. The actuation system is configured to actuate the movable jaw toward the first jaw to clamp the patient tissue against the first jaw while the movable jaw progressively drives the staples against the first jaw to staple the patient tissue.

摘要: An electronic system for a surgical instrument is disclosed. The electronic system comprises a main power supply circuit configured to supply electrical power to a microprocessor, a supplementary power supply circuit configured to supply electrical power to a sensor, and an over current/voltage protection circuit coupled between the main power supply circuit and the supplementary power supply circuit. The over current/voltage protection circuit comprises a current limit switch. The current limit switch comprises a current resistor coupled to an amplifier, wherein, when the amplifier detects a surge current above a predetermined threshold, the amplifier activates a circuit breaker to interrupt the surge current, and wherein when the surge current is remedied, the supplementary power supply circuit rejoins the main power supply circuit and is configured to supply power to the sensor.

The switch assembly is configured to lock the articulation drive in position when the articulation drive is not coupled to the input.

摘要: A surgical instrument. In one form, the surgical instrument includes a housing that has an interchangeable shaft assembly removably attached thereto. The interchangeable shaft assembly includes an elongate shaft that has a surgical end effector operably coupled thereto for selective articulation relative to the elongate shaft. An articulation system is configured to selectively apply articulation motions to the surgical end effector when the articulation system is in an actuated orientation. A locking arrangement prevents detachment of the interchangeable shaft assembly from the housing when the articulation system is in the actuated orientation.

摘要: A surgical stapling apparatus is disclosed. The surgical stapling apparatus comprises a cartridge body. The cartridge body comprises a deck comprising a tissue-supporting surface, a slot defined in the deck, and a plurality of staple cavities. The slot extends from a proximal end toward a distal end. The surgical stapling apparatus further comprises a plurality of staples removably stored in the staple cavities and a tissue stop positioned in the slot. The tissue stop comprises a detent releasably engaged with the cartridge body. The detent is configured to release from the cartridge body to permit the tissue stop to move from an undisplaced position to a displaced position.

摘要: Circular stapling instruments and anvil assemblies. The anvil assemblies may have collapsible anvil support members that may be inserted through an opening in a patient and then expanded to be attached to an anvil plate assembly that has a staple-forming surface thereon. The anvil support member is attachable to the anvil plate assembly in such a way that when the anvil assembly is coupled to the stapling head of a circular stapler, the staple-forming surface is in substantial registry with the staples supported in the stapling head. A variety of different anvil support members and anvil plate assemblies are disclosed.

摘要: An end effector for stapling tissue is disclosed. The end effector comprises a cartridge body comprising a deck, staples removably stored in the cartridge body, and an anvil configured to deform the staples. The end effector further comprises an implantable layer positioned intermediate the deck and the anvil. The layer comprises a tissue-facing surface, raised portions, and grooves defined intermediate the raised portions, wherein the raised portions apply localized compression to the tissue, and wherein the layer is releasably attached to the cartridge body.

摘要: A surgical fastening device provides a mechanism for manually retracting the drive shaft, drive beam, and associated components in the event of a jamming or misfiring condition. The device includes a handle housing from which an elongate shaft extends and an end effector at a distal end of the shaft. The end effector has a cartridge jaw and an anvil jaw in a pivoting arrangement. A drive shaft actuates a drive beam, which acts to drive fasteners from the cartridge jaw into tissue. The device include a first retraction mechanism configured to move linearly and proximally to retract the drive beam and drive shaft, and a second retraction mechanism that likewise is able to retract the drive beam and drive shaft.

摘要: Devices and methods are provided for securing fasteners and adjunct materials to tissue. In general, a surgical device can include at least one adjunct material to help improve surgical procedures performed using the surgical device. In one embodiment, an end effector of a surgical device can be configured to deliver an adjunct materials to a surgical site during a surgical procedure to help improve the surgical procedure. When the fasteners are deployed at a treatment site, the adjunct material(s) can remain at the treatment site with the fasteners. The fasteners can be “D” shaped and configured to rotate through the adjunct material when the fastener rotates from the end effector into tissue.
