Abstract: The invention disclosed herein concerns a privacy enhancing device for use with IP cameras and related methods. The privacy device includes an adjustable light filter and is configured to be placed over the lens of an IP camera such that the image captured by the IP camera passes through the filter. The transparency of the light filter is controlled using a control module in response to user inputs received using an on-board user interface so as to provide varying levels of privacy ranging from an opaque state and a transparent state. Inputs that serve to facilitate and enhance operation of the device can also be received from other input sources such as connected computing devices. For security, the control path defined by the control module and the on-board user input device can be isolated from other more sophisticated control devices that can be prone to hacking and remote control.

Abstract: A lighting fixture is provided. The lighting fixture includes a light source. The lighting fixture further includes an input device physically located on the lighting fixture. The input device is configured to receive a manual user-input associated with toggling power to the light source. The lighting fixture further includes a wireless communications device physically located on the lighting fixture. The wireless communications device includes an antenna and one or more control devices. The one or more control devices are configured to obtain, via the antenna, data indicative of a user-request to toggle power to the light source. The one or more control devices are further configured to provide one or more control signals associated with toggling power to the light source based, at least in part, on the data and irrespective of a state of the input device physically located on the lighting fixture.
