Upward extending ribs, perpendicular to a fluid flow, are formed in the trays and/or packages for increasing the mixing of the fluid flow near the devices under test, thereby enhancing convective heat transfer to or from the devices. Downward extending ribs are also formed in the trays and/or packages. The upward and downward extending ribs formed in the trays are in a staggered relationship for facilitating the stacking of trays. Alternatively, a surface roughness is applied to the trays and/or packages. The surface roughness applied to the packages is such that sufficient smooth regions remain on the packages for allowing pick-and-place machines to handle the packages.

    摘要: A manipulator for a test head connected to automatic test equipment through a heavy, inflexible cable. The manipulator includes a telescoping column assembly to which is mounted a vertical member. A cradle holding the test head is mounted to the vertical member. The cable is clamped at the vertical member to reduce the amount of force exerted by the cable on the test head. The cradle includes movable members to allow fine positioning of the test head, while maintaining the test head isolated from cable force. Course motion of the test head may be made by moving portions of the manipulator on the opposite side of the cable clamp from the test head. Precise positioning of the test head relative to a handling device is accomplished through a positioning mechanism at the interface between the test head and the handling device. To allow the positioning mechanism to operate, the manipulator has compliance which allows the test head to be forced into position by the positioning mechanism.

    摘要: A system for achieving a high degree of damping in beams and structures made from beam-type elements such as machine tools and automation equipment, although the invention can apply to any type of structure which requires damping and/or temperature control. The invention is also concerned with utilization of the same structure to obtain a high degree of temperature control in some cases. A high degree of damping is obtained by making the beam hollow and inserting one or more structural members inside the beam along its approximate length, and then filling the annulus between the axial internal members and the external surrounding structure with a viscoelastic energy absorbing material such that the inner structures and the outer structure are fully linked in shear by the viscoelastic material so that any bending in the beams results in relative shear displacement between the beams which shears the viscoelastic material and thereby dissipates vibration energy. To be effective, the internal structural members must be carefully sized so that their cross sectional area is a substantial portion of the cross sectional area of the outer surrounding structure, and the internal structural members' neutral axes should be located as far as possible away from the surrounding structure's neutral axis. Furthermore, when the internal members are configured as tubes, temperature-controlled fluid (e.g., water) can be circulated through the tubes and used to control the temperature of the structure.
