Abstract:
A computing system group member, signal bearing medium, and method. A configuration of a computing system group member is determined to be able to assume a role of a primary member of the computing system group and, in response thereto, a first status is assigned in the member. All members of the computing system group receive, in order, all messages directed to group members. A second status is assigned in response to determining that the configuration of the member is not able to support performance as a primary member. The member then processes, within the member, all messages that are transmitted to all members of the group when the member is assigned the first status and when the member is assigned the second status. The configuration of the member, while assigned either the first status or the second status, is adjusted based upon contents of the messages.
Abstract:
Improved techniques to produce integrated circuit products are disclosed. The improved techniques permit smaller and less costly production of integrated circuit products. One aspect of the invention concerns covering test contacts (e.g., test pins) provided with the integrated circuit products using printed ink. Once covered with the ink, the test contacts are no longer electrically exposed. Hence, the integrated circuit products are not susceptible to accidental access or electrostatic discharge. Moreover, the integrated circuit products can be efficiently produced in a small form factor without any need for additional packaging or labels to electrically isolate the test contacts.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods to improve the pharmacokinetic profile of S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) are provided, as are methods of treating various disorders using SAMe formulations with improved pharmacokinetic profiles. More specifically, the invention is directed to methods of treating a disease or disorder in a subject and/or improving the nutritional status of a subject by administering formulations exhibiting improved pharmacokinetic profiles of exogenous SAMe. The method also includes the step of orally administering compositions of the invention to the subject once per day after overnight fast; that is prior to food intake in the morning.
Abstract:
A method. A combination is provided of a block copolymer and additional material. The copolymer includes a first block of a first polymer covalently bonded to a second block of a second polymer. The additional material is miscible with the first polymer. The first polymer includes polystyrene and the second polymer includes poly(ethylene oxide). A first layer including polydimethylglutarimide is adhered onto a surface of a substrate including a dielectric coated silicon wafer. A film is formed of the combination directly onto a surface of the first layer. Nanostructures of the additional material self-assemble within the first polymer block. The film and the first layer are simultaneously etched. The nanostructures have an etch rate lower than an etch rate of the block copolymer and lower than an etch rate of the first layer. Portions of the film are removed. Features remain on the surface of the first layer.
Abstract:
This invention relates to hot film shear stress sensors and their fabrication. We describe a hot film shear stress sensor comprising a silicon substrate supporting a membrane having a cavity underneath, said membrane bearing a film of metal and having electrical contacts for heating said film, and wherein said membrane comprises a silicon oxide membrane, where in said metal comprises aluminium or tungsten, and wherein said membrane has a protective layer of a silicon-based material over said film of metal. In preferred embodiments the sensor is fabricated by a CMOS process and the metal comprises aluminium or tungsten.
Abstract:
A hypothermia treatment sack comprising a top sheet and a bottom sheet releasably connecting along their perimeters to form a patient receiving cavity between the top and bottom sheets while allowing for patient access from any location around the perimeter. The top and bottom sheets include a weatherproof exterior side for repelling wind and water, and a heat reflective interior side for preventing heat from escaping. A plurality of self-activating heating pads are carried in the top sheet for producing heat when exposed to air. The heating pads have a first side exposed on the weatherproof exterior side of the top sheet to provide for a generally unrestricted airflow to the heating pads, and a second side exposed on the heat reflective interior side of the top sheet for radiating heat directly into the patient receiving cavity.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for extrapolating GPS coordinates beyond line of sight are disclosed. A coordinate extrapolation system (CES) can include a memory, a processor, and a GPS receiver. The CES can receive GPS signals and determine GPS coordinates corresponding to a location. If GPS signals are unavailable, the CES models the surface of the earth and extrapolates the GPS coordinates corresponding to the location at which GPS signals are unavailable. Methods for extrapolating the GPS coordinates and calibrating the CES are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A process for providing detergent compositions comprising synthesizing mono and di esters from biologically derived 1,3-propanediol an incorporating said esters into detergent formulations. The basic process involves producing and purifying biologically derived 1,3-propanediol, synthesizing mono and di esters by the condensation of 1,3-propanediol with an acid using a catalyst, recovering the ester and incorporating said ester into a detergent formulation. The compositions made from the biologically derived 1,3-propanediol are also encompassed by the invention.
Abstract:
Extended release formulations of S-methyladenosylmethionine (SAMe) are provided, as are methods of treating various disorders using extended release SAMe formulations. The extended release formulations may be used to treat a variety of disorders, including liver disorders, psychiatric disorders and joint disorders. Thus, extended release SAMe formulations may be used to treat alcoholic liver disease, fatty liver disease, hepatitis, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, and depressive disorders such as depression (e.g. major clinical depression) and dysthymia.
Abstract:
A locking fastener for a guitar strap which receives the end pin of a guitar includes a base plate and a locking plate which is reciprocatingly slidable on the base plate. The base plate has a pin receiving keyhole formed through its thickness which is defined by a widened opening and a narrowed opening. The base plate also has a central slot formed through its thickness and openings or detents which are spaced apart from one another. The locking plate has a front edge which is recessed to define an open pocket, at least one protrusion which is selectively received in the openings or detents to secure the locking plate in a desired position with respect to the base plate, and a knob post or handle which extends through the central slot of the base plate and which is graspable by a user. By sliding the locking plate with respect to the base plate, the user may effectively change the size of the pin receiving keyhole to secure or release the end pin of the guitar from the locking fastener and strap attached thereto.
